Chapter 1414 When Will You Return
Thomas knew his excuse sounded lame, but he could no longer stand being a third wheel.
Elisa was confused.
She could not understand why Thomas behaved strangely. He was usually serious and professional.
"You go ahead." Elisa looked at the pots of herbal medicine brewing before her and did not have time to bother about Thomas.
On the other hand, Gareth fully understood what Thomas' words meant. He remained expressionless and did not say anything.
Elisa and Gareth did not interact after Thomas left. The room was utterly silent other than the gentle bubbling noises from medicine being cooked over the fire.
"Perhaps you should return with Ganoderma Caligo first," Gareth finally broke the silence. His voice sounded hoarse as he had not spoken for a long time.
He turned to Elisa as he spoke. The usual coldness in his eyes had disappeared and been replaced with concern and warmth.
He said that out of consideration for Elisa's safety.
However, Elisa was concerned that Eden would take advantage of her absence and retaliate against Gareth over their previous confrontation.
Although she knew Gareth was not afraid of this, she could not leave him to deal with it alone.
Elisa refused immediately. "We came here together and are now in the same boat. Furthermore, you have residues of the toxin within your system. What if your condition recurs when I'm not around?"
Gareth considered briefly and replied, "You can leave a few doses of medicine with me. I will return once the auction is over."
With his strong endurance and willpower, he would have no problem staying back to attend the auction with the help of a few doses of medicine.
However, Elisa could not bear to leave him like that.
"Gareth, you didn't retreat when Eden pointed a gun at you to make you let go of me. Therefore, I also can't abandon you and leave Moranta first!" Elisa pursed her lips and appeared determined.
Gareth's eyes flickered briefly. He frowned but did not speak.
Since Elisa had decided, he knew nothing would change her mind.
Eden lived a luxurious life and enjoyed authority as a prince. He feared nothing. Elisa knew he wanted Gareth dead.
Thus, Gareth would be safer if she stayed behind and remained by his side.
She at least had what Eden wanted. He would not kill her yet.
With that in mind, she wondered what an ordinary citizen like her had that a prince would want. She wondered if it had anything to do with her parents.
Elisa's eyes became dazed with thoughts. Perhaps it has something to do with my mother.
Gareth saw that Elisa was pondering about something and remained silent so as not to disturb her.
At the same time, he was calm and had decided to ensure her safety no matter the danger that came their way. He would protect her even if it cost his life.
Gareth's heart skipped a beat as he thought about this.
Why do I now…
However, Elisa's voice sounded before he could think further.
"Gareth, watch the fire. Let's set aside other things for now."
To Elisa, nothing was more important than their current task. They needed to resolve this first.
Gareth's eyes' flickered briefly. He grunted and said nothing else.
Suddenly, a phone rang and disrupted the silence.
Elisa raised her eyebrows and glanced at the screen before answering it.
"My darling Rach, what's wrong?"
Gareth frowned instinctively. He disliked hearing her call someone 'darling.'
Rachel had no idea that Gareth was with her and said, "I heard about it from Vincent. When will you return?"
