Chapter 1428 Empty-handed
Eden remained indifferent and even rebuked Irene, "I've warned you not to mess with Elisa. Ever since then, I never thought about continuing to cooperate with you." The truth was Eden didn't care if Irene wanted to join forces with him.
Irene's expression soured. "Do you really deem yourself the crown prince of Estoccia? Let me be blunt–once those people discover that Elisa is the one they're searching for, you won't even be qualified to carry her sandals!"
Eden was most concerned about his identity. Irene was well aware that they were similar in that regard. Otherwise, they wouldn't have agreed to work together in the first place.
Eden narrowed his eyes as he burned in anger. However, Irene didn't intend to stop. Neither did Eden conceal his emotions. In the blink of an eye, he held Irene's neck.
Irene's eyes widened in shock and disbelief. "H-How dare you lay a hand on me?!"
Eden sniggered disdainfully, "You should've known your place since our last discussion fell apart. You're not the real princess and have no right to point fingers at me! If you don't want to cooperate, get lost, and don't meddle with my plans! Otherwise… Well, you can try!"
Eden finally revealed his true colors. Irene could feel the force he was exerting and the violence in his eyes.
A wise person knows when to retreat. This was a basic and unchanging principle Irene had learned throughout the years to reach her current position.
She could refrain from going after Elisa for now, but what Eden did was a big blow to her and had trampled on her dignity.
The moment Eden let go of her, she taunted coldly, "Eden, stop acting salty! Even if I don't go after Elisa and sabotage your plans or even end our collaboration, do you think you can erase what we did together? Or do you think Elisa will eventually fall for you, and when those people find her, she'll abandon you?"
Irene clenched her fists furiously. If Eden provoked her again, she wouldn't stay back!
"That's none of your business, you fake princess." Eden cast a cold glance at Irene, thinking nothing of her.
Irene drew close to Eden in exasperation and hissed, "You were adopted too, Eden! You better watch your words!"
"Yeah. We were both adopted, so don't be too haughty. Even if I kill you now, do you think your country will stand up for you?" Eden jeered at Irene mercilessly.
Irene's expression turned even more gloomy. Precisely because she was an adopted princess, she had been making every effort to learn about politics, diplomacy, etiquette, and more. To establish a favorable image amongst the citizens, she had visited disaster-stricken and poverty several times at the cost of her own comfort.
However, the citizens' favor toward the true princess remained high. Just as Irene thought she had found the perfect partner, Eden was attracted to Elisa. Even if Irene died, she would remain empty-handed.
