Gareth would never have asked Thomas to investigate if he believed the car crash was accidental.
"Whether it was an accident, that's no reason for you to scold Elisa. How can you blame Elisa for arranging the crash? Why would she arrange for someone to collide with the car while she was in it?"
Gareth's words rendered Will's mother, Marsha, speechless. She wanted to argue but did not know what to say.
Anyone could see that Elisa could not have arranged the collision.
After all, no one could predict how the crash could turn out. Elisa was still in the car and would not have risked her life this way.
Furthermore, she had no motive for doing this.
However, that did not mean Elisa had nothing to do with the matter.
Marsha cleared her throat and watched Gareth and Elisa's interaction. Then, she focused on Elisa and sneered, "I didn't say she did it. Mr. Wickam, why so serious? If I'm not mistaken, you two are divorced. I'm afraid you will cause others to misunderstand if you side with her like this."
She brought up a sensitive topic between Gareth and Elisa.
Gareth glanced at Elisa. As expected, she was displeased with what Marsha said.
Gareth shielded Elisa behind him and replied, "Since it wasn't Elisa's fault, why did you scold her? Mrs. Darcey, I address you this way out of respect. I understand your memory might not be in top condition due to your age, but don't force my hands. My relationship with Elisa is a private matter between me and her. It's nothing of your concern."
Marsha was fuming. Gareth had a perfect retort to everything she said.
Her anger was spiraling out of control. She did not care that Gareth was someone she could not afford to offend. All she cared about was not to be humiliated before Elisa.
However, a sharp female voice sounded before she could do anything.
"Will is a friendly man and has no enemies. He couldn't have been the one targeted in this accident. So who was targeted, then? Mr. Wickam, I believe a certain someone is jinxed and is a danger to the people around her. You should take my advice and stay away from her. However, if you truly love her, you should watch her closely. Don't let her go around and seduce other men. Or perhaps, you have a thing for being cuckolded."
Everyone turned to look at the speaker.
It was Jocelyn. She walked into the hospital at this moment, dressed to the nines.
She saw Marsha and eagerly hurried to her.
As she approached them closer, she noticed Elisa and Gareth and saw their grim expressions.
She had eavesdropped on their conversations before coming over.
That was why she said something in Marsha's defense.
Marsha glanced at Jocelyn indifferently.
Even though Jocelyn helped Marsha, it did not change Marsha's disdain for her.
