Elisa retorted instantly, "You can go and talk to Linda. If she's willing, both of you might be able to get back together." With that, Elisa walked away.
Gareth's face turned solemn as he cursed inwardly. He quickly caught up with Elisa and said, "I don't mean that. You should know that she…"
"What about her? Have you forgotten how she 'died'?" Elisa interrupted Gareth sternly before he could finish his sentence.
Gareth fell into silence. Of course, he knew Linda's 'death' caused a sensation in Bayswe and caused Elisa to be criticized. However, after the trip to Moranta and their close contact, he understood there must be a reason behind it all.
Nonetheless, he knew Elisa and Linda would never reconcile, so he didn't plan to persuade Elisa either.
Pressing his lips, Gareth regained his composure and said, "I have no comments about her. You're well aware of her motives."
Elisa nodded in agreement but remained sulky. "Yeah. Her motive is to snatch away all I have now. She wants me dead so that she can return to you. Mr. Wickam, you're the root of all problems. Why don't you fix everything?" She deliberately made a sarcastic remark.
Gareth's expression turned grim. He furrowed his brows and gazed at the petty woman. "Elisa, you don't have to provoke me with these words. Linda and I are not what you think."
Elisa refused to listen to Gareth as she clearly remembered the past. She sniggered and went straight to the point. "Don't tell me that what I witnessed in the past was a show put on by you and Linda to provoke me. I didn't lose my memory. I only attended the banquet today due to my identity and to show respect to the Garner family. As for you, you know best why you came. Don't pretend to be so dignified!"
Elisa didn't believe Gareth came because of her but thought he merely wanted to meet Linda.
In fact, even Elisa couldn't understand herself. She was aggrieved by what happened in the past and was tired of being entangled with Gareth. Yet, Gareth occasionally gave Elisa the illusion that he had fallen for her.
At that moment, the last thing she wanted was to be entangled with Gareth, so she turned to leave, but Gareth swiftly grasped her.
Elisa attempted to push Gareth away, but Gareth pinned her against the wall to prevent her from resisting. He stared at the sullen woman with his deep-set eyes. "Are you jealous?"
Elisa looked at Gareth in surprise and blurted, "Are you drunk?"
