It was probably because they were related by blood.
Elisa nodded, her eyes stinging slightly. "It has been a long time indeed, Uncle Winslow. Why did you call me and ask me to come back? What on earth has happened?"
Nothing has changed at the casino. Uncle Winslow has many people working for him, and he seems to be in good spirits. Even the large mastiff wagged its tail and approached me when it saw me. She had been deep in thought throughout the entire journey, her mind preoccupied. However, she couldn't figure out what could have happened, which only added to her anxiety.
"It's because of your mother's situation. I can take you back this time. I believe there are some things you should know instead of remaining in the dark about them. I can't just stand by and watch you continue to be influenced by Gareth," Winslow said, his tone solemn. Back then, Elisa said she wanted to do her own investigating. She also implied that she had some unfinished business in Bayswe. That's why I let her go back. And what came of that? Several months have passed, and Gareth is still hanging around her. Even now, he's still the one making the arrangements. I'm afraid that if I don't intervene soon, she'll end up with him again.
"I wasn't influenced by Gareth. This time, it was him who wanted to reconcile. I never thought about getting back together with him. However, since you brought up what happened with my mom, she..." Elisa pursed her lips, her expression becoming particularly serious at the mention of her mother. She, too, was eager to uncover the truth. Why did she disappear for so many years without any news?
Observing the shift in her expression, Winslow understood what she was thinking. However, worried that someone would eavesdrop on their conversation, he did not elaborate. He even left her in suspense by saying, "You'll understand when the time comes. I need a week to take care of things at the casino. Once I'm done, I'll take you there."
Then, he swiftly changed the subject. "You probably didn't eat well on the plane, did you? What would you like to eat? I'll have someone prepare it for you."
She shook her head. "I ate well on the plane, so I'm not hungry yet. However, I didn't get much sleep."
