"Will, I don't like you. I've told you before, I only see you as a friend. No matter how much you try to manipulate me emotionally, it won't make me do something I don't want to."
Elisa spoke honestly. She didn't want Will to persist in something that was impossible.
Will fell silent.
That was where Will and Gareth differed.
"Look, you still have so many things to attend to. By the time you remember me, I would have already missed the best opportunity. When you left this time, did you have Gareth by your side?" Will lifted his gaze to meet Elisa's eyes.
He wanted to hear Elisa's answer from her own lips.
Elisa didn't respond, but the expression in her eyes and brows said it all.
Her silence was taken as consent.
Will felt an overwhelming sense of oppression in his heart at that moment. A wild thought crossed his mind. If Gareth dies, will Elisa then be able to focus all her attention on me? I'm disabled now, though. I won't even have the chance to stay close to her!
"You always treated Gareth differently than you treated me. I know that. Because in those three years, you were married to Gareth, you could never manage to forget him." Will's words were remarkably similar to Gareth's.
Faced with these two men, Elisa felt deeply helpless. Considering Will's situation, she decided to soften her tone.
She patted Will's shoulder. "Indeed, I can't forget him, but I won't be with him, and certainly not with you. Will, I'm not someone who enjoys repeating myself. I've spoken so clearly. I beg you to understand my meaning. Don't put me in a difficult position next time!"
