The look in Rachel’s eyes turned complicated. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out.
Elisa said gently, “Let’s talk about this when you are better, Carle. You should take care of your own body.”
Carle’s eyes shone with tears. Eventually, he replied helplessly. “Okay then.”
Their call was still going on, but both of them had gone silent.
Elisa did not know what to say. Carle had a lot to say, but he needed to figure out where or how to start.
Rachel felt awkward. The next moment, she suddenly had an idea. She quickly ran to one side and shouted, “Elisa, come help me! I don’t know how to sort out your belongings.”
Elisa smiled slowly. This best friend of hers was indeed reliable. Carle had surely heard Rachel.
As expected, Carle spoke. “We’ll talk later then. Go on with your unpacking.”
“Okay. Take care of your health. Don’t overwork yourself.”
“Alright.”
Elisa hung up right away.
Carle held onto his phone. He had a sad look on his face.
He stared at his phone’s wallpaper with increased sadness in his eyes. It was a beautiful photo of Elisa.
Elisa…
Am I going to lose her?
No. To be exact, had she ever belonged to him?
…
Three days passed.
Elisa was transferred to Gareth’s company for work.
