Elisa hesitated for a moment but still answered the call.
However, before she could say anything, she heard his cold voice from the other side of the phone, "Why did you see him at a time like this?"
Elisa's eyes flickered. She gasped a sigh in her heart.
"It was my mistake. I will be more careful after this."
Gareth was upset. Although Elisa couldn't see his expression, she knew he must be furious now.
"Nobody believes you. Don't you think you owe me an explanation?"
"Do you not believe me?" Instead of getting riled up at the circumstance, Elisa asked calmly.
It wasn't because she was trying to convince Gareth to believe her.
Gareth looked even glummer now. He responded with a sneer, "Why should I believe you?"
She understood that it was hard for people to believe her. She would have doubted herself if she was an outsider too.
With jaw clenched, Gareth's rage was stoked by Elisa's silence.
She had to explain to him whether he chose to believe her or not.
However, Elisa's silence implied her refusal of explanation.
This d*mn woman! Sometimes I really feel like strangling her!
Gareth held back his frustration. But the more he tried to hold back his emotions, the angrier he became. The floodgate of resentment crashed in that instant.
But before he could say anything, Elisa uttered.
"I don't know what to say. It's up to you whether you want to believe me or not. If you don't believe me, there's no point for me to explain."
Elisa said indifferently. She had clearly expressed that there was nothing that she could do if he wouldn't believe her.
