Xena sounded annoyed when she said, "I thought you were just an ordinary assistant. I never thought you'd be Alex's sister."
I never expected Alex to reveal my identity as well. In fact, I never thought Alex would decide to marry Xena.
After all, Xena was not a kind person. When I thought of the Schneider family's ways and attitude, I could not help but worry for Alex.
Suppressing my bitter feelings, I said, "I'm just an ordinary assistant. You can treat me as one." I was not going to tell her about my plan.
Xena scoffed. "I'm afraid it's not that simple. I'll be waiting for you at the café on Northwake Street." With that, she ended the call.
I stared at my phone, slightly furrowing my brows. "She's crazy." I wanted to ignore Xena, but a text appeared on my phone. It read, "You've got to show up. Who knows? You might meet someone you value."
I was instantly on high alert. In the end, I changed and put on a cap to cover my face before heading to the café Xena mentioned.
It was not until half an hour later that Xena finally arrived in a coffee-colored coat. Her hair was wavy as usual, and her lips had been smothered with bright red lipstick. She sat down across from me and stared at me without saying anything. From her gaze, I sensed her hostility.
"I initially thought you were Mr. Hastings' sister, but never did I expect you two not to be blood-related. I thought you two had a pure brother-and-sister relationship. To my surprise, you have the audacity to covet something that doesn't belong to you."
