I followed the young woman into the assistants' office, where another well-dressed young woman was typing rapidly on her keyboard.
"Ada, this is the new assistant, Serena Ashford," the young woman introduced me.
Ada looked me up and down before saying, "Hello, I'm Ada. Mr. Schneider's assistant."
She extended her hand for a brief handshake, her tone cool. "Mr. Schneider has high standards. I hope you can adapt quickly to this job."
I nodded, discreetly taking in my surroundings.
Desks, computers, filing cabinets—everything seemed normal, except for the look in Ada's eyes, which gave me a bad feeling.
"Ms. Ashford, you'll be responsible for Mr. Schneider's schedule, meeting records, and daily affairs," Ada began explaining the assistant's duties.
"His time is extremely valuable, so you must be meticulous and avoid mistakes. Also, Mr. Schneider dislikes people prying into his personal life. I suggest you don't get any unnecessary ideas."
I smiled but didn't respond.
When Lucas arrived at the office and saw me at my workstation, he seemed to be in a good mood.
"You're here?" He approached me, his tone gentle.
As soon as he got close, Ada walked over in her high heels, the rhythmic tapping of her steps echoing in the room. She held a folder in her hand and smiled sweetly. "Mr. Schneider, here's today's schedule."
Lucas took the folder, flipped through it briefly, and then looked at me. "From now on, Serena will handle this."
Ada's smile froze for a moment, but her expression quickly returned to normal. "I understand, Mr. Schneider."
I noticed the hostility in her eyes intensify the moment he said those words.
A few minutes later, I was called into Lucas' office.
