I looked at him, surprised. "But won't that jeopardize our collaboration with Zegler Corporation?"

While I did want to teach Jolene a lesson, I didn't want Hastings Group to suffer any losses because of me. The last thing I wanted was to cause trouble for Alex.

"Oliver chuckled. "I've worked with Mr. Hastings for years. I can read his mind like a book. If he didn't want something like this to happen, he wouldn't have sent you to negotiate with Zegler Corporation."

"What do you mean?" I felt like my brain couldn't keep up.

"It means we never planned to collaborate with Zegler Corporation in the first place."

"Why?" I was stunned. "But Zegler Corporation has the materials we need!"

"It's a long story."

"Then make it short."

Oliver parked the car in the underground parking lot and took a moment to think.

"Ronald rose to power thanks to his wife, the eldest daughter of the Watson family. But after his success, he started mistreating her, flaunting his affairs openly. The Watson family's eldest daughter was driven to a mental breakdown and was recently taken back by her family."
