"Let's stick with your usual choices. They can never go wrong," Noelle replied.
Cedric handed the menu back to the manager. "Go with what she suggested."
The manager glanced curiously at Noelle. She seemed unfamiliar, and his relationship with Cedric intrigued him.
But he soon snapped out of it and asked, "As for drinks, the usual wine?"
Cedric rejected the suggestion without hesitation. "No alcohol. Just bring some fruit juices or soft drinks."
The manager nodded and left cautiously with the menu.
Cedric turned his gaze to Noelle. "Why did you ask to meet Alfred?" He knew her well enough to understand she wouldn't invite Alfred out for a casual meal without a good reason.
After a brief pause, Noelle answered, "I've been appointed captain of Team Yole."
"Congratulations, Nelly! That's great news, definitely worth celebrating."
Noelle nodded. "Yeah. it's something to celebrate."
Cedric's eyes remained fixed on her as he asked, "Is that all? Nothing else to it?"
"Nope. It's just dinner. Right now you're the only two friends I have."
Noelle subconsciously avoided mentioning the investment.
Halfway through the meal, Alfred stepped out to take a phone call. Noelle nibbled at her food and sneaked a glance at Cedric, only to catch him watching her.
Cedric's tone was light but direct. "You have another reason for meeting Alfred, don't you?"
"Fine, you're right. I wanted to discuss the AI project. I think Donovan plans to take action against Maple Enterprise, so I thought it'd be good to strategize in advance."
"Don't worry about that. Alfred isn't a fool."
Noelle guiltily lowered her head to sip her water.
"How are you adjusting to school life?" Cedric asked.
