"Yes, it's all my fault. It was me, not Lucas," Xenia said pitifully, shrinking back in fear.
Donovan glanced at Xenia and then looked at Lucas with a hint of displeasure. "You're the older brother, Lucas. How can you just leave Xenia to take the fall alone?"
Lucas quickly protested, "No, Donovan. This really has nothing to do with me. It's not my fault!"
Donovan shot back, "You two came together earlier. Even though Xenia did most of the talking, you knew about it and were involved in the whole thing. Now that things have come to light, how can you act like it's not your responsibility?"
Lucas was shaken by Donovan's words. He was feeling cornered because he really had nothing to do with it; it was all Xenia's idea.
He turned to Xenia. "Tell him, Xenia. Explain to Donovan that this was all your doing. I tried to stop you!"
Xenia bit her lip and softly admitted, "Yes, it was me, Donovan. Everything was my decision."
Donovan pulled Xenia closer, trying to calm her. "It's okay, Xenia. Don't worry. I've got your back. You don't have to take the blame alone."
Xenia nodded obediently. "If Noelle insists on pursuing this, then let it fall on me. Don't let this affect Lucas' future."
Lucas stared at her in disbelief. "Xenia, what are you saying?"
How could she take the blame for everything when he had nothing to do with it? To Donovan, he was just as guilty.
Just then, Noelle walked over with a smile. "Have you two figured out how to handle this? Everyone's waiting."
Donovan tried to maintain his composure and whispered, "Noelle, I really didn't expect you to play dirty."
"No, wasn't that your lesson to me?" Noelle said with a smile. "Mr. Liddell, you might want to think carefully about how to handle this. I'm just following your lead, though I doubt I'll need to."
Donovan's temper flared. "You—"
Xenia hid behind Donovan. She was afraid to face Noelle.
