Felicia, you know you can't afford to lose Ernest again. Keeping things under wraps like this, if you don't come clean, you're also putting yourself in danger," Dustin tried to scare me.
"What have I actually taken? Besides, you know as well as I do that he's been playing dumb, refusing to admit he's Ernest," I countered.
Seeing I wasn't cooperating, Dustin's expression darkened, "Felicia, I don't want anything bad to happen to you. And if something does, I won't be able to protect you."
"When have you ever protected me?" I shot back.
His so-called love for me was nothing more than a means to satisfy his own desires for control and conquest.
Realizing he couldn't sway me, Dustin nodded slightly, "Then you're on your own."
He stormed off, seething with anger. Before, he always presented himself as this gentle and courteous knight in shining armor. Now, his true colors were showing. He was done pretending. It looked like he was ready to burn his bridges.
I wasn't scared of him, but I knew I needed to tread carefully. Lost in thought, I ended up pressing the wrong floor on the elevator and found myself at Fanny's maternity clinic.
Since I was here, I might as well check on Fanny. It had been days since we last spoke.
But as soon as I stepped out of the elevator, I heard someone screaming. The cries were not normal; I had a feeling something bad had happened and hurried over.
I saw a middle-aged woman sitting on the ground, wailing, "You've killed my daughter-in-law and my grandson. You will pay for this."
People were gathered all around, and the woman's family members were demanding to see the head of the hospital.
My heart sank, fearing this had something to do with Fanny. I turned to go to her office, but she appeared before I could reach it.
"Fanny, this has nothing to do with you, right?" I asked, concerned.
Her face was grave, "It does."
My heart tightened at her words, but before I could ask anything, she had already approached the aggrieved family, "I'm the head of this department. The hospital has already initiated a medical investigation into your case. Please, go home and wait for the results."

Good read. I like it when the protagonist is awesome, smart and straightforward as Felicia....
