No More Waiting, She Chooses Love novel Chapter 782

With a grunt of pain, the man collapsed onto the floor.

I held my baseball bat steady against him and took a good look at his face. He was a stranger.

“Who sent you? How did you get into my house?” I demanded directly.

The man shook his head, clearly not planning to spill the beans. I didn’t waste time with threats. Instead, I pulled out my phone. “Fine, you can explain it to the police then.”

“Please, don’t call them,” he pleaded, visibly shaken. “I was just trying to swipe a few things. I’ll give them back, okay?”

He fumbled into his pocket, and I quickly warned, “Easy now.” I half expected him to pull a weapon, but instead, out came my jewelry.

“This is all I took, I swear,” he said earnestly, trying to convince me. Just a petty thief, huh? I wasn’t buying it. He probably just grabbed these on the way out.

I didn't say another word, just started dialing the number. Seeing this, he panicked. “Ma’am, please, don’t call the cops. If they get involved, I’m done for.”

If he was so scared of the police, maybe he shouldn't have been up to no good. I lowered the phone slightly. “Tell me the truth, and maybe I’ll let you off the hook.”

He hesitated, a flicker of defiance in his eyes, but I cut him off. “You shake your head, and I’m calling them.”

The screen clearly displayed 911. He saw I meant business and finally relented. “It was some guy named Dustin who put me up to this.”

I hadn’t asked, but he continued. “I don’t know his full name. He paid me some cash up front and promised more once the job was done.”

“What exactly did he want you to do in my house?” I pressed.

“He didn’t say much. Just told me to rummage around and make a mess,” the man admitted. I could already picture the chaos inside.

The thought of my neat home turned upside down made me wince. Ever since I was a kid, I couldn’t stand disorder.
