This was a plan I had set up for her, though she willingly walked into it, just to savor the thrill of that moment.
"So, does that mean once the cops gather all the evidence, Ernest and the others are coming back soon?" This was what I was most concerned about.
"Yeah, almost," Conrad replied, "Sinclair is taking care of the last bit of trouble over there."
As Conrad spoke, I took a good look at him. He seemed even thinner than before.
It was understandable, really. With both his parents gone, his brother on the run with hostages, and him fighting battles for me, how could he possibly be okay?
"You've been through a lot lately," I said, expressing my gratitude.
"It's my duty. It's because of Dustin, after all. I have a responsibility," Conrad's tone was calm, but it carried a heavy weight of guilt.
Dustin was always jealous of him, claiming he was in no way inferior. Yet, just the sense of responsibility and maturity Conrad had was something Dustin couldn't match.
"Felicia," Conrad called my name, "Today marks five weeks since my parents passed. Can you come with me to visit their graves?"
Of course, I could.
Conrad and I arrived at the cemetery. Their gravestone had a photo of them together, with their names inscribed below. They might not have shared a grand love story, but they found peace in resting together, an endearing testament to their bond.
"Mr. and Mrs. Smith, if you see my parents down there, tell them I'm doing well," I said, finding it in me to forgive them completely.
"Thank you, Felicia," Conrad had brought me here with a purpose.
I gave him a small smile. "Honestly, I never truly hated them. I just couldn't bring myself to."
The most significant decade of my life was spent with them, filled with love and the warmth of a family.
"My parents would be at peace hearing you say that," Conrad said, gazing at the gravestone.
As we left the cemetery, walking down the steps, Conrad suddenly spoke, "Felicia, can you come visit them every year?"
