No More Waiting, She Chooses Love novel Chapter 860

"Debbie, what brings you here?"

Deborah Walker looked at me, surprised and a little excited. Her hair was cropped short, and she wore the standard prison jumpsuit, but her eyes were bright, a stark contrast to how they used to be.

Seeing her like this made me feel a mix of relief and sorrow. She'd finally avenged herself, but the cost had been a price no one should ever have to pay.

"Just came to check on you. Or am I not welcome?" I teased, trying to keep things light.

"Of course, you're welcome. But what about the baby? Isn't this place bad for her?" she said, somehow already knowing about my pregnancy.

"Don't worry about it. The baby will be proud to have such a brave godmother," I paused for a moment, "I've already contacted a lawyer. We'll work to get you the lightest sentence possible."

Deborah shook her head. "It's okay. In here, everyone’s on the same level. It's not like outside where people are always ranked and judged."

I was surprised by her acceptance, but it was a relief. I had feared she might fall into despair.

"You should still aim to get out sooner. We have big plans, remember? You'll always be the best Deborah to me," I said, knowing her story all too well.

She hesitated, then tears glistened in her eyes. "Sis, without you, there wouldn't be this Deborah."

"Just promise to take care of yourself. I'll always be your sister," I assured her.

I've never been one to believe in fate, but life seemed to keep taking people away from me, one way or another. Yet, I refused to accept it. I would fight to keep those I love close.

"I promise, Sis," Deborah nodded firmly.
