On a seat in the first row, Susanna turned around and waved at Zachary. “Zachary, over here.”
“Let’s go.” Zachary glanced at Lenora, then stepped forward.
Lenora’s body stiffened, the smile on her face fading away.
She had initially thought that Zachary would join her at the table, sitting alone with her.
She thought she had finally bested Susanna once, but in reality, it was nothing more than a handout from Zachary.
“What are you doing standing there?” Zachary turned around and asked Lenora.
Lenora lowered her gaze, took a deep breath, and stepped forward. She sat down next to Zachary. “I didn’t expect Ms. Carston to be here as well.”
Susanna’s face turned pale. She bit her lower lip and said softly, “I’m
rry, Nora. My
manager asked me to come. I had no idea you guys would be here. If you’re uncomfortable, I
can move to the back.”
As she spoke, Susanna rose and walked toward the back.
Zachary grasped her wrist. “No need. Just sit here.”
Susanna glanced at Lenora. “But…”
“It’s all right. She won’t mind.”
Lenora’s hands, resting on her lap, tightly clutched her skirt, her heartache so intense that it left her breathless.
Zachary, how do you know I wouldn’t mind?
Zachary, do you think I have no feelings?
She closed her eyes, striving to calm herself down, but it was all in vain.
Upon seeing Zachary, who was beside her, gently coaxing Susanna, Lenora was consumed by a fit of jealousy in her heart.
Lenora picked up the booklet beside her. It contained detailed information about all the auction items for the evening–their names, pictures, and materials.

She desperately needed to use this object to divert her attention. Otherwise, she was certain to lose her sanity.
As Lenora turned the pages one by one, she found it impossible to concentrate fully.
“Do you
like this?” Zachary suddenly whispered in her car.
Lenora snapped back to reality, her gaze falling on the page she had opened in the booklet in her hand. It showcased an emerald bangle, its glassy surface a clear blue, aptly named. Ocean’s Heart. It perfectly matched her dress.
Lenora nodded.
“I’ll bid for it and give it to you,” Zachary said.
“Thank you.”
In the beginning, Lenora was filled with curiosity about the charity dinner.
However, by now, she had already lost her enthusiasm and was completely devoid of energy.
Interestingly, Susanna had been quietly discussing the auction items with Zachary all along.
“This one is beautiful,” Susanna said, pointing to a piece of jewelry on a certain page of the catalog.
“You want it? All right.”
“No, I don’t need any of these.” Susanna gently tugged at Zachary’s sleeve.
glancing at Lenora.
Zachary understood that Susanna was innately kind–hearted. In the face of Lenora, she was extremely cautious. How could she dare to spend his money?
Lenora’s breath hitched, her expression frozen.
She noticed the watch on Susanna’s wrist, identical to the one Zachary had given her when he returned from his business trip.
The silver wristband, the small square dial, it stung her eyes.
So that’s how it was.
She wondered why would Zachary think to bring her a gift.
So it turned out that the gift was intended for Susanna, and she was merely an afterthought.
He couldn’t even be bothered to choose, so he simply picked the same one.

It wasn’t until the Ocean’s Heart made its appearance that Lenora started to pay a bit of
attention.
The starting bid for Ocean’s Heart was five million.
After several rounds of bidding, the bangle was successfully acquired by Zachary for a price of thirty million.
Lenora whispered to Zachary, “I’m feeling a bit stifled. I need to step outside for some fresh.
air.“
“Go ahead. I’ll call you when it’s time to leave.”
Lenora rose from her seat and left the auction hall.
She walked to the rear door of the banquet hall, which led to the back garden and a sizable swimming pool.
The gentle breeze brushed against her face, its cool warmth awakening her senses. considerably.
She settled down on a chair by the pool, closed her eyes, and let her body relax completely.
“Were you driven out?”
Dawn appeared by her side. She didn’t know when.
Lenora opened his eyes to glance at her, then closed them again, remaining silent.
Dawn scoffed. “What’s the point of pretending after everything’s been done? Haven’t you. noticed Ms. Carston by Zachary’s side? She’s his legitimate girlfriend. We are the ones who should remain unseen. It’s best to understand our own situation and not cover–what doesn’t belong to us.”
“Can you please shut up?” Lenora said impatiently.
She assumed her behavior was clear enough that anyone with a bit of tact would know she didn’t want to engage with Dawn.
“Well, look who’s blushing in anger. Don’t think that just because you’ve managed to get close to Zachary, you’re any different from the rest of us. Aren’t we all selling ourselves in one way or another? Who’s to say who’s more noble?”

“Shut up! I don’t want to hear you speak. Please leave this place.”
“I’m not leaving. Do you think you own this place?”
“If you won’t leave, then I will.”
Lenora rose from his chair and strode away.

As Dawn watched her retreating figure, a growing sense of defiance welled up within her.
Why was it that Lenora could get involved with Zachary, who was young, handsome, and wealthy, while she was stuck with a potbellied old man?
Wasn’t she also the other woman? Why does she carry herself with such arrogance, as if she looks down
on others?
The more Dawn thought about it, the angrier she became, and abruptly, she stepped forward and gave a push.
Caught off guard by the sudden nudge, Lenora lost her balance and, with a splash, fell into the swimming pool.
Dawn was greatly startled and hurriedly scampered away.
The icy pond water enveloped her entire body. She struggled frantically in the chilling water, choking on several mouthfuls of it.
A sense of suffocation gradually crept over her as a familiar fear spread throughout her body She couldn’t help but shiver uncontrollably, her hands and feet twitching involuntarily.
Lenora was gasping for breath, her consciousness gradually becoming blurry.
Suddenly, fragmented images flashed through her mind.
