No Way Back (Jane and Hugh) by Anna Mac novel Chapter 398

Chapter 398

Jane’s words were so harsh as she treated the matter with much indifference.

Jack’s heart almost stopped beating.

He was overwhelmed by sadness and did not know what to do.

He could only clench his fists tightly and lower his head. He was not able to refute Jane and could only accept that Jane had suppressed her emotions for many years.

His nails dug into the flesh of his palm. Blood was flowing from his hands.

He was in so much pain that he did not feel the pain in his palms.

The physical pain could not be compared to the torment in his heart.

Jane was night.

Back then, Jack thought that Jane would not be able to survive after she severed ties with the Fowler family. He thought that she was playing hardball. She wanted to make Jack humble himself and beg her to go back to the Fowler family, He thought she would take the opportunity to declare her rights over him.

Jack told Jane that she was daydreaming and would never give in to her. Even if Jane left the Fowler family, Jack still had Madelyn for a daughter. That was enough for him.

Jack said that if Jane did not cause trouble and stayed with the family, she might be able to inherit something from the Fowler family on account of her relationship with Jack. With that sum of money, she would not have to worry for the rest of her life. However, if Jane remained defiant, he vowed not to give her anything, including her status as the daughter of the Fowler family. She had to fend for herself going forward.

Jack thought that he was magnanimous and kind enough as a father. What Jane did was an insult to Jack, yet he was still willing to provide for Jane financially. The inheritance was something everyone would covet. However, Jane did not care for it.

When Jane returned to the Fowler family, she hid her identity and did not expose her true abilities. She did not do it for money, glory, or status. Instead, It was because they were Jane’s parents and brothers. They were her blood family, her closest kin.

It was Jack who had misunderstood Jane. He had hurt her in the first place. Anna had left the Fowler family, feeling disheartened. Jack promised to clear Jane’s name, but he trusted Madelyn instead. He did not realize that he had done wrong. He had humiliated Jane in every way possible.

If Jane had not revealed her true ability and impressed Jack, he would never understand Jane’s intentions all along. He never showed any concern for Jane.

Jack should have known the harsh fact long ago.

No, Jack realized it, but for the sake of his pride, he chose to ignore the truth.

He did not want to admit that he was in the wrong. Now that Jane had told the truth directly, the last bit of his pride was shattered.

Jack was exactly as Jane had said. He was a selfish and cold-blooded monster.

Jack was speechless.

He was not fit to be Jane’s father.

Kinship had made Jane disappointed and devastated. She used to harbor so much hope for her family.

Furthermore, Jack had never given Jane anything.

He had given Jane a life, but he had never fulfilled his duties or responsibilities as a father.

Jane had crushed Jack’s pride in front of Omar and Micheal.

He was deeply humiliated by Jane.

Jane saw how quiet Jack was. He cowered in ****, not daring to say or do anything.

Jack looked like a completely different person to Omar and Micheal.
