Nobilis of War novel Chapter 1255

After weighing the options, the Rule Soul Avatar chose to retreat.

"Let's go back to the cave,"

he instructed Jenifer, who had obviously lost her judgment.

By then, she had returned to her senses. Tears welled in her eyes as she thought about what had happened. She was utterly freaked out this time.

"Okay," she replied with a sob.

As the Rule Soul Avatar turned, she took Donovan's hand and marched forward.

It didn't take them long to reach the cave. Once they entered, Jenifer took a deep breath of relief. Almost as soon as she calmed down, fury surged with her.

"What's wrong with the old man? He should go to hell!" she cursed through gritted teeth.

Almost immediately, a black shadow flashed, and the guard in the black robe appeared beside her.

Jenifer was stupefied again.

"I'm sorry, sir. I didn't mean it. I..." she hurried to explain, but the guard raised his hand and gestured her to stop.

"We wanted you to leave a long time ago, but the rules prevented us from forcing you," he explained.

His justification only confused her more.

A few moments ago, this guard had threatened to kill Darren if he dared to escape. But now, it was also he who expressed that he had wanted Darren to leave. It was inexplicable.

Even the Rule Soul Avatar's expression reflected the confusion coursing through him.

Seeing their puzzled expressions, the guard continued, "From the day you arrived, the child's identity as the son of a supreme god has aroused the suspicion of most people. It is not safe for him to stay here any longer.

We need you to take him away. But we cannot permit you to leave in broad daylight. Do you understand what I mean?"

The Rule Soul Avatar's eyes widened with understanding.

The guard had forced them to return to conceal the boy's identity and to trick the public. He must have arranged another passage for the three of them to leave.

"What's your plan?" the Rule Soul Avatar questioned.

"Come with me," instructed the guard. Then with a tearing action, his hands made a space hole in the cave. He cast a backward glance before stepping into the space hole first.

The Rule Soul Avatar followed him unhesitatingly. Jenifer paused. After a moment's contemplation, her grip on Donovan's hand tightened, and then she too stepped forward.

A long time passed and in a deserted mountain, the space suddenly fluctuated.

A crack appeared in the space and a few figures emerged from the crack.

"Have we reached? What is this place?"

Jenifer exclaimed as she swept her gaze around this unfamiliar scene.

"We're one thousand and five hundred kilometers away, but you still need to be careful. Avoid being detected by others," the guard cautioned. The Rule Soul Avatar nodded slightly.

"Go. Stay safe, and keep him alive." Several emotions flashed in his eyes as the guard glanced at Donovan.

The Rule Soul Avatar turned and began to walk forward. Now that they had their instructions, there was no need to stay. Jenifer smiled at the little boy before gently tugging on his hand as an encouragement to follow the Rule Soul Avatar.

They marched for days through this barren land. Remains of wild grass that had withered ages ago clung to the grey earth. They emitted an eerie rustling sound as the cold wind swept through them.

"Darren, do you feel it? Something wrong,"

Jenifer whispered as she halted. Even the Rule Soul Avatar narrowed his eyes and released his spiritual sense to probe their surroundings.

"Waah... Waah..."

The bleak, frigid winds carried a bitter whimper, hearing which, Jenifer became very uneasy.

"Ha-ha, ha-ha... How dare you despicable humans trespass in my territory? Sacrifice your souls!"

The power in the voice was so intense that the earth began to tremble.

The ground in front of them split open, and a huge skeleton claw stretched out from the crack. In the blink of an eye, the entire arm followed by the entire body rose from the ground.

The shadow of this gigantic body was so colossal that it enveloped Jenifer, Donovan, and the Rule Soul Avatar.

The creature was as tall as a mountain and made entirely of bones.

"Oh, my God! It's a fiend god!"

Jenifer shouted as panic gripped her, draining all the color from her face.

"Good guess. I have been buried here for thirty thousand years, and it has been a while since I tasted the fresh blood of humans and devoured human souls. How I miss the good old days!"

Like the booming of thunder, a hoarse voice was released as the huge skeleton opened and closed its mouth.
