30 Days Till I Divorce My Husband novel Chapter 449

"Seeing you get married would be a dream come true for us as parents. It hasn't been easy for your mom and me, you know?"

Paloma's explanation drained the last bit of Jason’s frustration.

Neither he nor Keith had shed a tear, so what was she crying about? Did she really think she had a right to feel wronged?

Jason stared at Paloma, his face blank, wanting to say something but ultimately holding back.

What was there to say? It was just absurd.

If it weren’t for his grand proposal to Estrella, they likely wouldn’t have remembered they had a son.

As Jason met her gaze, silent, Paloma felt her heart ache. She would’ve preferred if Jason had blamed them, even just a little. It would’ve made her feel somewhat better. But Jason wouldn’t give them that satisfaction.

Jason knew what she was thinking, which made him even less inclined to engage.

Complaining would make them feel better. Ignoring them, not acknowledging their self-pity, made them feel awkward.

After all these years, what were they to him? If not out of respect for Landon and Cole, he wouldn’t have shown up today.

Wiping her tears and staring at Jason, Paloma said, “Jason, if you’re upset with us, just say it. It might make you feel better.”

Jason chuckled. “Nah, Auntie. You two aren’t that significant. I’m here for my dad and my father-in-law.”

Engaging with Paloma would seem like he was holding a grudge, as if he cared about them.

But he didn’t hold a grudge. He truly didn’t care.

So, he added, looking at Paloma, “To me, you two are strangers. Just suddenly popping back into everyone’s life as if resurrected. If I had to express my feelings, disgust is all I have.”

Jason’s casual remarks turned Paloma pale, her tears stopping in their tracks, rendering her speechless.

His word, ‘disgust’, hit harder than a thousand insults, because it conveyed nothing but disdain and contempt.

After Jason’s comment, the room fell into a stifling silence.

Keith, looking at Jason, was filled with pride. His own outburst and earlier displeasure didn’t compare to Jason’s piercing words.

This boy knew how to strike at the heart.

Thankfully, he hadn’t been so harsh with him.

Jason just smiled, “It’s all in the past.”

He paused, then awkwardly added, “I’ve been a bit of a brat these past years. Sorry, Dad.”

He wanted to apologize but wasn’t sure how to phrase it.

Except with Estrella, he wasn’t used to making amends.

Jason’s hint at an apology made Landon’s day. He eagerly responded, “I understand, son. You’re my boy. Why would I hold anything against you? Besides, you’ve always been good to your mom and me, always calling me Dad.”

With those words, Landon couldn’t hide his joy. His son was still his, Hans’s return notwithstanding.

Landon hadn't mentioned to Jason that over the years, Hans and Paloma had expanded their brood with two more kids—a boy followed by a girl.

The son, now 29, was three years Jason's junior and had already tied the knot.

Their daughter, at 25, was still playing the field.

Seizing the moment, Landon said, "It's been ages since the house has seen any real action. How about you and Estrella, along with Isaac, swing by the family estate for dinner tomorrow night? Plus, with Estrella expecting, I've yet to play my part as the soon-to-be granddad."
