Leonora's sudden move startled Taylor, making him gasp for air. "Geez, Arielle, aiming to knock me out here?"
Even so, Taylor didn’t push her away or scold her. Instead, he glanced outside the car.
At that moment, he saw Leonora's parents walking by, carrying grocery bags.
A second later, Taylor wanted to laugh.
Such a scaredy-cat.
After Leonora's parents passed by, Taylor looked down at her again, only to find her still hiding her face between his legs with utmost seriousness.
Taylor chuckled.
She was like an ostrich burying its head in the sand when faced with trouble.
Leonora didn’t move, and Taylor didn’t urge her. He just enjoyed watching her be all timid.
Motionless in Taylor's arms until she felt a certain physical change in him, Leonora got embarrassed.
Then, she slightly lifted her head and asked, "Have my parents gone by?"
Taylor replied, "Not yet, they’re glued to the window watching."
"..."
So, she buried her face again.
Leonora’s skittishness made Taylor’s heart bloom with joy, and he gently stroked her head, thoroughly enjoying the moment.
Leonora felt uncomfortable lying down, shifting her head a bit, causing Taylor to hold his breath and then let out a couple of ambiguous moans.
For a moment, Leonora didn’t know where to put herself, but she was too scared to get up.
Listening intently for any noise outside, and after a long while with no sound, Leonora realized she had been tricked by Taylor.
Immediately, she lifted her head and slapped Taylor: "Taylor, are you having fun fooling me?"
Seeing Leonora’s flushed face, Taylor burst into laughter, saying, "Fooling others isn’t fun, but fooling you is."
Leonora glared at him, looked behind to see no one at the car window – her parents had long gone home.
Then, turning back, she calmly said, "I’m going back inside."
Seeing Leonora about to leave, Taylor grabbed her wrist.
Leonora looked up at him.
Eyes locked, Taylor earnestly said, "Leonora, inviting you to stay in Southbay was because I wanted to spend time with you. Think about my proposal."
Taylor’s seriousness made Leonora catch her breath.
At that moment, Taylor was practically fishing for Leonora's attention, almost outright telling her he might have feelings for her, urging her to seize the opportunity.
After a long stare, seeing Taylor’s sincerity, and considering they were at her place, Leonora didn’t want to start a conflict and said, "I’ll think about it. You should head back and rest."
With that, she opened the car door and left.
Watching Leonora leave, Taylor’s face broke into a gentle smile.
Initially, his pursuit of Leonora was just to vent his anger, a form of revenge against Grant. He hadn’t expected to get so entangled with Leonora and even found himself reluctant to let go.
Thinking of Grant, Taylor’s expression cooled again, wishing that Grant would never return, never reappear in Leonora’s life – that would be for the best.
---
Upstairs, the moment Leonora stepped into her house, her mom, Shania, came out of the kitchen with a plate of fruit, remarking on Leonora’s long absence since yesterday morning with a frown, "The older you get, the more you ignore home."
"It seems if you spend another couple of days out, you might even forget what your parents look like."
So, that night, Leonora tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. She had to clear things up with Taylor before even thinking about going on a blind date!
Otherwise, everything would be a mess.
After much tossing, unable to figure it out, Leonora eventually fell asleep.
---
Meanwhile, Taylor’s night was just beginning.
After dropping Leonora off early, he and his friends, Jason Grayson and Thomas, met up at a bar to start the night.
Grayson was always up for hanging out, no one needed to keep tabs on him. Jason, on the other hand, was kicked out by Estrella who had had enough of him hovering around the house. Finding out that Thomas was organizing a get-together, she practically shoved Jason out the door without a second thought.
Jason tried to argue that with Estrella's pregnancy, he should stay home more to keep her company. Estrella was so fed up at one point, she joked about calling for a local courier service to wrap him up and ship him off to the bar.
No sooner had Jason left, than she and Isaac turned the house upside down, making the most of their alone time.
At the lounge, it had been a while since the gang got together. Taylor was in a particularly good mood, prompting Grayson to tease, “Looking pretty happy there, buddy. Something good happening soon?”
The dance floor was alive with vibrant lights and the crowd moved with an infectious energy. The atmosphere was buzzing, a stark contrast to the quiet of home life. The women at the club were a whole different scene from the ones back home, especially Leonora, who hadn't set foot in a bar in her life.
They were chilling in the VIP section on the second floor when Grayson popped the question. Taylor just chuckled, “Nah.”
He'd spent the last couple of days with Leonora and couldn't help but feel good about it, especially remembering how she was snuggled between his legs when he dropped her off.
Taylor's denial didn't fool Jason, who looked up with a knowing gaze, “Not buying it.”
He had walked in on Taylor and Leonora together, not once but twice.
At Jason's accusation, Taylor had an inkling that Jason knew about his moments with Leonora.
Lighting a cigarette from the pack on the coffee table, Taylor puffed out a smoke ring, casually dropping that Leonora was “Grant’s girlfriend.”
