Meanwhile, at Leonora's place...
After taking a shower and having a brief chat with her parents, Leonora went back to her room. She settled into bed with a book, but just as she was about to turn off the light and call it a night, her phone rang. It was Taylor.
Leonora answered, but before she could say anything, Taylor's voice came through the line, "Hey babe, I'm coming over to pick you up."
Ignoring a message from Kitty and not bothering to look for her, Taylor had decided, after a quick shower back in Southbay, to come over and get Leonora.
Leonora was silent for a moment, then sighed, "Can't you just have a day off? If I'd known, I would've gone back to Southbay with you instead of walking in the park. Now you're coming over in the middle of the night."
She added, "But how am I supposed to explain this to my parents at this hour?"
Taylor suggested, "Should I just come upstairs?"
"Don't even think about it, I'll figure something out," she replied. If he came up, her parents would definitely not let her out.
Leonora hadn’t planned on meeting Taylor or going over to his place, but he had mentioned wanting to see her before dropping her off earlier, and now he was back, still thinking about it. She couldn’t bear to turn him away.
Besides, he had been unusually clingy these past few days, always needing to hold her. Determined to find a way, Leonora hung up and quickly changed into some casual clothes.
When she opened her bedroom door and walked into the living room, her parents were still there, not yet retired for the night.
Seeing Leonora dressed to go out, both her parents asked in unison, "Arielle, it's past ten, where are you going?"
Caught off guard, Leonora stammered, "My friend, well, my boyfriend, he twisted his ankle at home. It seems pretty serious, and he can't move. I'm going to check on him and maybe take him to the hospital."
In her room, Leonora had struggled to come up with an excuse, eventually asking Joselyn for advice. Hearing that her boyfriend had a serious ankle twist, her parents immediately became concerned.
Shania quickly asked, "Is it serious? Should we come with you? We could help support him and handle the hospital admission."
"Mom, there's no need. Meeting you like this would be awkward for him."
"Then let your dad drive you over."
"I've already called a cab, it's almost here. I'll call you once I get to his place."
Lying to her parents made Leonora feel awful. She had hardly ever lied before meeting Taylor, but now she was becoming a professional at it. Her parents, believing her story about the cab, didn’t insist on accompanying her. They understood the need for young people to have their own space, especially considering their daughter was already 26.
Before leaving, Shania advised, "Arielle, if his condition is serious, you must call us. As elders, we should also visit him. And don't let us lose courtesy."
"Mom, I understand."
Dropping Leonora off at work, Taylor left her with breakfast and some caring words, reminding her to eat well. With Leonora by his side, Taylor felt content, able to ignore everything else.
However, upon returning to his office and parking the car, he found Kitty lounging in his office, legs crossed, waiting for him with a look of distress. Seeing Kitty, Taylor's heart sank, realizing she was more troublesome than ever.
Upon noticing Taylor, Kitty's previously bright demeanor instantly turned pitiful. "Brother-in-law, you've made me suffer so much, keeping me waiting all night long, enduring such agony."
"If I had known, I would've paid for some company instead."
Kitty's complaint was met with a nonchalant approach by Taylor as he stepped closer with a smile, "Ms. Kitty, I'm off to work now, you go have your fun wherever that is."
Upon seeing this, Kitty reached out, grabbed Taylor by the collar, and pulled him closer, "Taylor, you stood me up. You think you can just brush me off like that? You were the one who promised me yesterday."
Kitty's features were strikingly beautiful, and they seemed even more enchanting up close. With his hands propped against the chair, Taylor looked at her with a teasing smile, "I've told you, I'm married. If you're lacking company for the night, I can have Blake arrange someone for you."
"Married?" Kitty laughed mockingly, "Brother-in-law, I've done my homework on your little fling. She's Grant's ex-girlfriend, a mere employee in your administrative department. There's no way you two are serious. It's just a spiteful game against Grant, just a temporary change of taste."
"It's all just for fun, why take it so seriously? Don't pretend to be something you're not."
Who is Taylor? She knew him better than anyone else. She could believe anyone else to be a good man, but never Taylor. Both of them were cut from the same cloth, none better than the other.
