A Caged Songbird's Escape: Into the Arms of a Predator novel Chapter 488

Inside the hospital room, Rowan simply watched Paige vent her fury with cold detachment before tossing a paternity test onto the table.

"Take a look."

"What is this?"

Paige flipped it open, and her blood ran cold instantly.

Her mind went completely blank.

The report explicitly stated: Mr. Rowan Murphy and Mr. Slate Murphy share no biological relation.

Rowan uncapped a pen, shoved it into her hand, and tapped his fingers lightly against the overbed table. "Ready to sign now?"

Recovering from her shock, Paige glared at him with venomous hatred. "What does this prove? For all we know, you might be the one with no Murphy blood in you!"

"Is that right?" Rowan wasn't in a hurry. He nodded thoughtfully. "Fine. Then we'll just grab another Murphy family member to take a test with Slate."

"Let's see... who should it be? Aunt Karol and Aunt Sonia are definitely out. They're your biological daughters, just like my uncle."

"Hmm..." Rowan paused, then smiled. "I've got it. Let's use Butler Murphy."

He stared at Paige for a long moment, a mocking glint in his eye. "Yes, using Butler Murphy is the safest bet."

After all, Butler Murphy had long been impotent.

Even if Paige wanted to pull some strings to falsify the results, he wouldn't be able to provide the necessary biological sample.

Catching his underlying threat, she nearly choked on her own fury. Gritting her teeth, she spat out, "I'll sign! I'll sign it."

She didn't need Rowan to spell it out for her.

If Slate's true parentage was exposed right now, they would lose any chance of ever reclaiming control of the Murphy Group.

Orion Stone was out of prison now.

With Slate's three percent, as long as they survived this, they could mount a comeback!

She had just met with him and immediately fainted afterward.

Orion must have dropped an absolute bombshell on her.

Paige's hands balled into fists, the loose skin on her jaw tightening slightly. "Who? I don't know what you're talking about."

The mention of Orion made her even more anxious.

She never could have imagined that the wretched Elissa wasn't the biological daughter of those police officers... but quite possibly the lost heiress of the Wilkinson family.

The Wilkinson family...

If they ever found out she had tortured their daughter for years, she would be completely annihilated.

Orion had met with her tonight to tell her to mend her relationship with Elissa as quickly as possible.

Rowan seemed to lose his patience, glancing lazily toward the door. "Should I call Slate in and see if he knows what I'm talking about?"
