If it were in the past, Rowan would have immediately glared at him. Now, he just gave an involuntary, soft cough.
Elissa assumed he was joking and smiled, teasing him, "Rex, you're suddenly so... approachable. I'm not used to it."
Among Rowan's friends, Rex was the one who disliked her the most.
After knowing each other for so many years, they weren't even connected on social media.
Initially, when she added Frank and the others, she had brought it up to Rex directly, only to be ruthlessly turned down.
Rex swept his gaze over them, catching the suppressed gloating in Rowan's eyes. He shot him a sidelong glance before sourly responding to Elissa, "I suppose Rowan is the only one you'd willingly be so close to."
Though his words were dripping with sourness, he didn't really have the right to be jealous.
Whether it was him or the Wilkinson family, they all had to thank Rowan for protecting Elissa openly and secretly all these years.
Otherwise, given Paige's ruthless tactics, Elissa might have died long ago, let alone achieved such success in the medical field.
It was just...
He still felt a bit disgruntled.
This was his sister!
His flesh-and-blood sister!
Why did he have to look at Rowan's face just to speak to her in the past??
It was completely unfair.
Thinking about this made him even more annoyed.
Having known him for so many years, Rowan understood him fairly well. Just as he was about to say something, Aaron and Cliff stepped out of the elevator one after another.
Aaron looked travel-worn, walking briskly, his urgency palpable.
Seeing him, Elissa choked up. "Aaron..."
Aaron didn't say much, simply patting her shoulder. "Let's go see Jacqueline."
"Okay." Elissa agreed, then turned to Rowan. "I'll... head back to the room first."
"Go ahead."
Rowan waited until the three of them were far away before turning to look at his fiercely loyal best friend.
Rex was also looking at him, the resentment in his eyes practically overflowing. "Did you know all along?"
The question came out of nowhere.
But Rowan knew exactly what he meant. "I guessed."
"And you didn't tell me??"
Rex felt a surge of frustration in his chest. Spotting the smoking area nearby, he took a few large strides over, pulling out a cigarette and lowering his head to light it.
Before the blue flame even touched the tip, a well-defined hand reached over and snapped the cigarette in half.
He was left with only a stub in his mouth.
Rex glared at him. "What are you doing?"
"Secondhand smoke lingers," Rowan said seriously. "Elissa already hates the smell of smoke, and she's pregnant right now."
Rex instantly deflated like a dud missile, tossing not only the stub but also his lighter into the nearby trash can.
"Got it."
Next time before seeing his sister, he would definitely shower and change his clothes properly.
A second later, he suddenly realized something and looked at Rowan with uncontrollable joy. "How could I forget? I'm going to be an uncle!!"
