Chapter 1990 Making It Up To Her
Magnus was all curled up, hugging his knees. His head was hanging low. He had no idea how much time had passed when the sound of footsteps reached him.
He slowly lifted his head, only to see Denise approaching. She was bundled up in a down jacket, a hat, and a scarf, carrying groceries in her hands.
Magnus was somewhat taken aback.
He rubbed his eyes, somewhat incredulous at the sight of her.
“Denise! This isn't a dream, is it?”
Upon hearing his question, Denise didn't respond. She walked straight up to him, her eyes filled with indifference.
“What are you doing here? Haven't you deceived me enough?”
She gave a bitter smile. “I'm broke. I don't have a single penny left.”
Upon hearing her voice, Magnus was certain he hadn't misheard. He quickly grasped Denise's hand.
“Denise, I'm sorry. I'm sorry...”
Denise flung his hand away. “What's the point of saying this now?”
Magnus' hand hung limply in mid-air, his throat aching.
At that time, all he could do was apologize, as he was utterly powerless to do anything else.
His face was pale as he slowly asked, “Did something really happen to Mr. and Mrs. Laney?”
“You took the money meant for their medical expenses, yet you're asking this question. Don't you find it ironic?” Cecilia asked.
Magnus felt as if something was stuck in his throat. He had initially intended to explain why he took the money, but now, it seemed futile.
He had been too presumptuous before, thinking that he could simply double the hundred thousand and then give it to Denise. He was sure that would have made Denise very happy.
“Can I make it up to you in any way?” Magnus asked, trembling.
“No need. Get lost!” Denise said coldly.
Magnus, however, stood in front of her. “I will repay you twofold. I promise to return all the money to you. About your parents. I... I'm sorry...”
