A Man Like None Other (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6503

*****

Silas and Luna had been keeping watch on the mountaintop watch-post in the Greywild Mountains for several days.

The ground here sat high, with a wide-open view. From this position, they could see everything happening at the entrance to the Primordial Sanctuary.

"They had laid a veiling ward across the mountaintop watch-post.

Within it, they drew in every trace of their own aura until they seemed to blend into the grass and trees around them."

From a distance, this place looked like nothing more than a barren slope. There was nothing about it that seemed out of place.

The two of them took turns resting while one kept watch on the sanctuary entrance. Neither of them dared loosen up, not even for a moment.

Daytime was easier. The view stretched wide, and the smallest movement could be seen at a glance.

At night, frost energy bit through the mountain, the wind screamed over the rocks, and the darkness swallowed even an outstretched hand. They could only rely on spirit sense to feel their way through it.

"They did not dare push their spirit sense too far. If a passing demon beast or cultivator noticed it, the whole watch could be exposed.

So they searched carefully within only 100 yards around them."

Aside from the time Master Wellspring had gone in, no one else had entered again.

Luna leaned against the stone wall and pulled her gray cloak tighter around herself. A yawn slipped out of her, and there was nothing for her to do but sit there and wait.

She had already been stuck on this mountaintop watch-post for several days. Her robes were creased all over, her hair had fallen a little out of order, and the long watch had left her face drawn.

"Do you think Master Wellspring will come back?" she asked under her breath.

Silas did not answer. He only kept his eyes fixed on the sanctuary entrance without blinking.

Both his hands rested on the hilt of his blade. His knuckles had gone faintly pale from the pressure, and his whole body held like a bowstring drawn to the limit, ready to snap into motion at any second.

He was a gold-medallion assassin of the Abyssal Exchange. He had carried out more surveillance missions than most people could count, and he had never let a dull assignment loosen his guard.

Luna let out a sigh. "That mouth of yours really is sealed with gold. We’ve been partners all these years, and I could count the words you’ve said on one hand."

Just then, two figures appeared along the far edge of the sky.

One flew ahead and the other followed behind, both heading straight toward the sanctuary entrance.

Luna’s body went taut at once. Her eyes locked hard onto the two shadows drawing closer and closer.

The figure in front wore a blue-green Daoist robe, with a longsword hanging at his waist and his left arm suspended across his chest. It was Master Wellspring.

He was not flying quickly. His injuries clearly had not fully healed.

The figure behind him wore a long white dress. Her hair was black as ink, her bearing cool and distant, and a faint white spiritual light circled around her. It was Beast Sovereign Morgana.

Silas’s pupils tightened slightly. "They’re here."

Luna immediately pulled herself together. She took a smooth Messaging Jade Slip from inside her robe and sent her spirit sense into it.

Dense clusters of tiny sigils surfaced across the jade slip. She steadied herself and quickly wrote, "Chapter Master, Master Wellspring has brought Beast Sovereign Morgana into the Primordial Sanctuary again. Both of them look rushed, and they seem to have come prepared. Please advise."

A moment later, Osric’s reply contained only two words: "Watch them."

Luna put away the jade slip and kept watching as the two figures disappeared through the stone door of the sanctuary.

Morgana and Master Wellspring passed through the stone door and stepped into the Primordial Sanctuary.

"Gray-white mist churned on every side.

It was so thick it seemed to have weight, rolling through the air like something almost solid."

"Tiny fragments of the Law of Chaos were mixed through that mist.

They cut like knives, scraping again and again at the spiritual warding veil of anyone who forced their way inside."

"A faint white spiritual light rose around Morgana.

It was the Nightfox nascence force, mild in its glow and unyielding beneath it, holding the mist outside her reach."

"Master Wellspring walked ahead of her.

The verdant longsword in his hand never once returned to its sheath. A thin spiritual light moved along the blade as he kept watch on everything around them."

"""This is the place,"" Master Wellspring said under his breath.

His voice traveled through the empty chamber, lowered under the weight of the space itself."

"Last time, we reached this point and that warden stopped us. That warden is within the great hall. His cultivation is beyond measure. One palm strike from him left me badly wounded. If he had not held back, I would likely have died right there."

"Morgana gave a small nod.

She said nothing and kept moving forward."
