A Man Like None Other (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6517

She looped both arms around Jared's neck and rested her face against his shoulder.

Through the cloth of his green robe, she could feel the warmth of his body.

Her eyes filled again. "I thought I'd never see you again."

"I'm back."

Jared's voice was as calm as ever.

But Gwendolyn heard what lay underneath it.

They had fought side by side for too long.

He didn't need to say another word. She understood all of it.

"Hold on tight."

Violet chaotic force spread around them and sealed them both inside a radiant barrier.

Jared stepped forward and left the gaol.

He crossed the passage carved with sigils, passed through the empty great hall, and returned to the square.

The square was even emptier than it had been when he went in.

He had casually driven back a portion of the three thousand celestial elites with a single sword strike.

But while he was in the gaol, Alaric had gathered even more men.

The square outside the great hall was packed with celestial cultivators again, a dense mass of them, thousands strong.

Their holy radiance fused into one blazing expanse and stained the sky gold.

He had shattered the twelvefold warding.

But a new set of temporary wards had already been raised, layer after layer of golden screens of light sealing the entire great hall inside.

They weren't equal to the original twelve layers, but they were still enough to give a True Immortal Realm Level Nine expert a headache.

Alaric stood at the very back of the crowd.

He had put his golden armor back on, and the Hallowbane Blade was in his hand again.

But his lips were white.

His hand shook.

And there was unease in his eyes.

He hid behind a wall of elders and guards, not daring to face the young man carrying the woman in his arms.

His voice trembled, but he still tried to cling to the last scraps of authority. "Jared, you think you're leaving this place alive? This is the Celestial Alliance great hall—the power center of the Sixteenth Firmament!

You can kill a hundred people, a thousand people! But I can bring in more! Your True Immortal Realm Level Six spiritual power is limited in the end. You really think you can..."

Jared cut him off.

"Three thousand?"

One corner of his mouth lifted, barely.

It wasn't a smile.

It was something colder—detached, superior, absolute.

His voice was calm.

Calm enough to send a chill down every spine that heard it.

"Not enough."

The instant the words fell, he drew his sword.

This time, everyone saw exactly how he did it.

Because he wanted them to.

The Dragonslayer Sword slid slowly from its sheath.

As it emerged, violet light ignited inch by inch along the blade, spreading from the hilt to the tip.

The violet glow wasn't blinding.

It still made no one able to keep their eyes open.

Chaotic force gathered along the blade, compressed, then condensed again, until it became a hundred-yard arc of violet sword light.

It stretched across heaven and earth, hanging high above the square like a violet judgment suspended over every head.

The first sword strike fell.

The violet blade-flare swept across the square.

Everywhere it passed, the golden saintlight melted away like snow under a sudden thaw.

The armor of hundreds of celestial cultivators shattered.

Their weapons shattered.

Then flesh and blood shattered with them.

There were no screams.

No wails.

It all happened in absolute silence.

Chaos-flame devoured everything, erasing holy radiance, spiritual power, spirit, flesh, armor, and weapons until nothing remained.

Hundreds died to a single strike.

Nothing was left behind but drifting golden motes, scattering through the air like a silent fall of golden snow.

The second sword fell.

Another hundred-yard blade-flare tore across the square.

This time, the blade-flare hadn't even landed yet.

The sheer violence of its sword aura alone was enough to make hundreds lose their footing.

Those with weaker cultivation were thrown straight off their feet, spinning through the air before crashing into their companions.

The blade-flare came right behind it and cut through all of them at once—their weapons, their formations, their wards—reducing everything to fragments.
