A Man Like None Other (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6599

A flash of killing intent cut through Florian's eyes. "Haunt a place? Your Abyssal Exchange trespassed onto the territory of the Ember God Palace, stole our treasures, and you still have the nerve to say that? Chairman Cedric... have you been living too comfortably?"

"The Ember God Palace's territory?" Cedric laughed, and there wasn't a trace of warmth in it. "This Ancient Battlefield has existed for who knows how many tens of thousands of years. Back then, your Ember God Palace was probably still hiding in some forgotten hole. Since when did this become your land?"

Florian's expression darkened.

He did not like Cedric's attitude.

"Chairman Cedric, I don't want to waste words with you."

His voice turned cold as ice. "Hand over the sword. Hand over every treasure you took from the tomb. Hand over Jared. Do that, and I can spare your life."

Cedric looked at Florian, and a flicker of mockery passed through his red-gold eyes.

"Vice Court Master Florian, did that beating rattle your brain? You really think you're in any position to bargain with me?"

Florian's grip tightened around the golden spear, and the saintlight flame at its tip surged higher in a violent flare.

"Whether I am or not," Florian said, "we'll find out after we fight."

Before the last word fully left his mouth, he shot forward.

The golden spear drove straight at Cedric with crushing force.

Cedric let out a cold snort and brought Gloamdeep across his body, catching the spear head-on.

Clang—

Golden holy radiance slammed into duskgold sword aura in midair, and the metallic shriek of the collision stabbed through the battlefield.

The shock wave blasted outward in every direction, ripping up a layer of ground around them and hurling broken stone through the air.

Both men were thrown back several steps.

A flicker of surprise crossed Florian's eyes.

He hadn't expected a merchant like Cedric to wield such viciously sharp swordsmanship.

Worse, the sword aura inside Gloamdeep was strange.

When it collided with his holy radiance, it was actually devouring it.

"What a sword." Greed edged Florian's voice. "I'm taking it."

A cold curve touched Cedric's mouth. "You want it? Then let's see if you have what it takes."

They charged each other again, the golden spear and Gloamdeep weaving through the air in a blur of rapid, relentless impacts.

At the same time, the celestials and the cultivators of the Abyssal Exchange crashed into battle around them.

Golden holy radiance and silver-white spiritual power slammed together in the sky, every collision followed by violent explosions and rolling shock waves.

The celestials had greater numbers, but they were all carrying injuries, and their combat strength had been badly cut down.

The Abyssal Exchange had fewer people, but every one of them was elite, and unlike their enemies, they had entered the fight fresh enough to keep most of their strength intact.

For a while, the two sides were deadlocked.

Neither could put the other down.

But as the fight dragged on, the celestials' advantage in numbers began to show.

The Abyssal Exchange cultivators fought hard, but there were simply too many enemies.

One Golden Immortal Level Two cultivator from the Abyssal Exchange was trapped under a three-man assault, forced to fend left and right as streaks of holy radiance burned several wounds into his body.

Another, a Golden Immortal Level One cultivator, took a blade strike from a celestial Golden Immortal Level Two across the shoulder.

His whole arm was nearly severed, and golden blood burst out in a spray.

Cedric saw it, and a flash of urgency cut through his eyes.

He knew they couldn't hold out much longer if this kept going.

But he couldn't retreat.

Because Jared was still inside the tomb.

If Cedric pulled back now, then the moment Jared came out, he'd be facing an ambush from more than thirty celestials.

He wouldn't survive it.

And if Jared died, every plan Cedric had would collapse with him.

Cedric gritted his teeth and slashed Gloamdeep out in a savage arc, sending a streak of duskgold sword aura at Florian.

Florian twisted aside to avoid it, then drove the golden spear toward Cedric's chest in the same motion.

Cedric couldn't dodge in time.

The spear scraped across his left ribs and carved a deep, bloody groove.

The silver-white armor split open.

Dark-crimson blood poured from the wound and pattered onto the ground.

Cedric shot backward, putting distance between himself and Florian.

Florian didn't pursue.

He stopped where he was, looked at Cedric, and let a satisfied smile curl across his mouth.
