"This is far too generous..."

Rowan's voice caught in his throat. "You saved all our lives, and now you are giving us the spoils too. We cannot accept this without shame."

"You came here for your village, did you not?" Jared said. "These materials should help them."

That was all it took for Rowan's restraint to break.

Tears rolled down his face.

He bent into a deep bow and stayed there for a long time, unable to straighten up.

"I have nothing worthy to repay you with. From today onward, your concerns are mine, and they belong to Clearwind Village as well. Say the word, and I will face any danger for you without backing down."

The nine cultivators behind him bowed too. Their eyes were full of gratitude and respect.

Jared only nodded.

He did not say anything more.

Rowan finally straightened, wiped his face, and turned back to his men. "What are you all staring for? Move! Gather the spoils!"

The nine cultivators snapped out of their daze and rushed to work.

They handled the demon hound corpses with practiced hands, cutting them apart and sorting everything piece by piece. Hides, bone spikes, flesh, and beast cores were all packed away separately. Excitement spread across their faces, impossible to hide.

After a moment, Rowan walked back to Jared.

He hesitated, then asked carefully, "I still do not know how to address you."

"Jared," Jared said.

He did not hide his name.

The celestials were hunting him, but the Nineteenth Firmament was vast beyond measure. There had to be plenty of people with the same name. Besides, both his face and aura had already been changed.

No one should recognize him.

"Jared..."

Rowan repeated it under his breath.

The name sounded familiar, as though he had heard it somewhere, but the memory would not come to him.

"Mr. Chance, did you just arrive in the Nineteenth Firmament?"

"Yes." Jared nodded. "My wife is here. I came to find her."

Rowan's eyes immediately brightened.

"Then Bermu City is exactly where you should go. It is one of the largest human cultivator settlements in the Nineteenth Firmament. Merchant guilds, intelligence brokers, traveling cultivators, all sorts of people gather there. If you have enough crystals, you can buy almost any information you need."

"Bermu City?" Jared asked.

"Yes, Bermu City."

Rowan pointed toward the southeast. "Keep going that way, and you will reach it in about two days. The city is enormous. Wandering cultivators, sect disciples, merchants, mercenary groups, everyone passes through. The city rules are strict too. Private fighting is forbidden, so it is considered one of the safer places around here."

Jared nodded.

That was exactly the kind of place he needed right now.

"Captain Rowan, is Clearwind Village close to Bermu City?"

"Fairly close," Rowan said. "It sits northeast of the city, about half a day away. The village is small, only a few hundred households. Most families survive by hunting demon beasts and gathering spiritual herbs."

He let out a tired sigh.

"The demon hounds have been pushing their territory outward lately. They keep appearing near the village and attacking people. We have already lost several villagers."

He paused.

When he looked at Jared again, hope flickered in his eyes, but he seemed embarrassed to voice it.

"The village chief sent us to find their den. If we could drive them off, or wipe them out, Clearwind Village would be safe. But after what happened today, you saw it yourself. With our strength, we cannot fight those beasts."

He struggled for another moment before saying, "Mr. Chance, since your strength is so extraordinary, if it would not trouble you, could you..."

He stopped before finishing and shook his head.

"No. Forget I said that. This is our village's problem. We should not drag you into it."

Jared stayed quiet for a moment.
