A Man Like None Other (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6639

Before the villagers could recover from the Ironblood mercenaries' raid, another wave of hoofbeats rolled in.

The Graywolf Gang arrived from the other side of the village.

More than two hundred gang members rode black spirit wolves into Clearwind Village, their faces carrying cold smiles and naked greed.

Soon after, the night turned red.

Blazefire Sect entered.

More than a hundred disciples came with flames burning around their bodies. Each held a flaming longsword, the fire on the blades snapping in the wind.

Cloudflight Pavilion came last.

Lydia Finch led over a hundred disciples in from the south.

Her face was blank.

For one brief moment, pity flashed through her eyes.

Then it disappeared.

She did not stop them.

She did not dare.

With the Ironblood Mercenary Company, the Graywolf Gang, Blazefire Sect, and Cloudflight Pavilion all present, nearly seven hundred people sealed off tiny Clearwind Village.

There was no path out.

The villagers were forced into the square at the entrance.

Elders, women, and children huddled together, trembling.

The men were shoved to one side under guard, anger and fear twisting their faces.

Alden stood at the front.

His old frame shook in the wind, but his eyes never left Marcus.

"Marcus Kade," he said hoarsely, "what do you want from us? Clearwind Village has lived here for generations. We have never offended you."

"I already said it."

Marcus sounded almost bored. "I want the beast core. I want Jared. Give me both, and I will let you live."

"Mr. Chance has not returned. The core is not here." Alden's voice rose. "Even if you dig up every stone in this village, you will not find it."

Marcus smiled.

"Then we wait until he comes back."

He waved again.

More mercenaries broke away from the crowd and resumed searching.

Only this time, looting was no longer enough for them.

One of the mercenaries stopped in front of a young woman and grabbed her chin.

He looked her over with a foul grin.

"Not bad."

His fingers rubbed over her face.

The woman trembled so hard she could barely stand. Tears poured from her eyes as she tried to pull away.

His grip tightened.

"Let her go!"

Her husband rushed forward and punched the mercenary across the face.

Blood split the corner of the mercenary's mouth.

For a heartbeat, he looked stunned.

Then rage flooded his face.

"You want to die?"

He drew his blade and drove it into the man's stomach.

Blood spilled down the man's clothes. His eyes widened with fury and disbelief before his body collapsed.

"Darling!"

The woman threw herself over him, screaming until her voice tore.

The mercenary wiped blood from his mouth and looked down at her again.

The filth in his eyes only grew worse.

"Now there is no one in my way."

He laughed and reached for her clothes.

She struggled and begged, but his hands pinned her down.

The mercenaries around him did not stop him.

They laughed.

"Lucky bastard."

"Move faster. We all want a turn."

"She is pretty enough."
