A Man Like None Other (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6759

Dark red mineral light flowed silently through the cavern, casting a long shadow of Jared's cross-legged figure across the stone wall.

With his eyes closed, he slowly circulated the Focus Technique. Chaotic force formed a fine net around the nether energy recently absorbed into his core and began the final refinement.

The energy had entered him like a raging flood, but it was far more docile now.

Under the repeated scorching of his chaotic flame, its violence and decay were stripped away layer by layer. What remained became threads of pure energy that merged with his meridians and core.

Jared breathed in a slow, steady rhythm. Every cycle brought a slight increase in the power within him.

Just before the final refinement was complete, however, his brow tightened sharply.

At the very heart of the nether energy hid an exceedingly weak yet remarkably stubborn force. Like an iron nail wedged into a crack in stone, it refused to budge no matter how his chaotic force scoured it.

It was neither nether energy nor demonic aura, and it belonged to none of the laws he recognized.

It possessed the warmth and softness of flowing water, together with water's ability to seep through every opening and penetrate any obstacle.

Jared enclosed it with chaotic force and attempted to refine it.

Gray radiance closed around the force like a giant invisible hand tightening its grip.

But the force twisted like a slippery fish through every gap in the chaotic force. It escaped his control several times, then sank back into the depths of his core and became still as a stone submerged in deep water.

"Slipped free yet again..."

Jared murmured under his breath, a trace of gravity entering his violet eyes.

He circulated chaotic force once more, surrounded the elusive strand, and summoned a stronger chaotic flame to burn it.

Gray fire rose within his core and engulfed the foreign power.

Yet the force behaved like waterlogged wood. No matter how fiercely the flame burned, only its surface warmed. Its core remained cold and hard.

He tried seven times and failed on every attempt.

The strand roamed through Jared's core like a mischievous child. Whenever he reached for it, it hid and lay still. The moment he relaxed his guard, it quietly reappeared.

It did not harm his body or interfere with his techniques. It merely persisted, refusing both refinement and expulsion.

Jared gradually ended his cultivation and opened his eyes, an unusual confusion clouding their violet depths.

He rose without disturbing Gwendolyn, who remained in meditation, and slipped through the curtain. Then he followed the stone steps toward Elder Nether's cavern.

Elder Nether seemed accustomed to Jared arriving without warning.

He sat on the same black stone stool, a long, slender black pipe held between withered fingers. Blue nether flame burned in the bowl and released a cool, bracing fragrance.

When Jared entered, the elder lifted his eyelids slightly. "Young Jared, what brings you here so late?"

"Elder, I encountered a problem while refining the nether energy."

Jared sat opposite him and described the force he could not refine. "It belongs to neither nether energy nor demonic aura. I can't refine it, and I can't drive it out. Seven times I enclosed it with chaotic force, and seven times it escaped."
