Chapter 111
Cora waited until 10:00 pm, but there was still no sign of Joseph coming home. Frustrated, she called him, only to find that his phone was turned off. In a rage, she hurled her phone out of the room.
Cora knew Joseph hadn’t gone to a hotel, so he was probably spending the night at his laboratory. Still, she didn’t go looking for him.
Instead, she went to bed, thinking that if she fell asleep, she wouldn’t be so irritated anymore. In the end, she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
If Joseph were here, they could make love, and she would drift off to sleep easily.
Cora could only fall asleep after taking some pills, but in the wee hours of the morning, she was jolted awake by a nightmare. She touched her back and found it already soaked in sweat.
*Joseph, you bastard! I’ve been so good to you, but look what you did to me! You really let me down!”
Cora really wanted to go to his laboratory and give him a piece of her mind. What she didn’t know was that he hadn’t been slacking off at all. He was reviewing patient cases and working on his doctoral thesis.
The next day, Marvin kept calling Joseph from the hospital, but the latter did not answer. The operating room was breathing down his neck, leaving him in a panic.
“Damn it! Why did you turn off your phone at a time like this?”
Since Marvin couldn’t reach Joseph, he had no choice but to explain the situation to Ernest’s family and assure them that the surgical team was capable of performing the surgery.
However, Frank didn’t trust them, so he called Cora and demanded that she bring Joseph to the hospital.
“Is Joe trying to set Marvin up?”
That was when Cora realized that Joseph had no intention of working with Marvin or even saving Ernest. “Damn it! He still thinks I’m involved with Frank! He never trusted me at all!”
Cora carefully weighed the situation and decided not to tell Frank about Joseph’s laboratory. After all, it had nothing to do with Ernest’s case.
That evening, Joseph woke up, grabbed a bite, and called Paige to find out what had happened at the hospital.
After that, he gave Marvin a call. The moment the call went through, he was greeted with a tirade.
