After saving yet another patient, Joseph returned to the nurses’ station and noticed a group of colleagues gathered around a television screen, watching a breaking news report about a major fire.

The footage showed the Maroon Mansion on fire.

Joseph’s attention was immediately drawn to it. This was one of Cora’s properties, operating as an exclusive private club. A venue like that didn’t simply erupt into a fire of this magnitude for no reason. That had to be arson, and it had to have been done by someone with extraordinary means.

Was it the people from Croma?

Other than them, Joseph couldn’t think of anyone bold enough to strike directly at Cora.

“Dr. Hart, all the victims were sent to a different hospital.” Paige noticed his troubled expression and assumed he was worried about the victims.

Joseph replied, “How many deaths?”

“The official report says three. But from what I’ve heard, the real number is much higher-”

Before she could continue, her phone rang. She answered it briefly, then handed the phone to Joseph.

The call was from Walt. Some critical patients were being transferred over. They were important patients.

When he heard who the patients were, Joseph was shocked. They were Frank’s wife and child.

“Dr. Hart, it’s carbon monoxide poisoning.” The escorting physician quickly handed over the case and summarized the situation.

Carbon monoxide poisoning?

Joseph said nothing and ordered that the patients be transferred directly into the emergency room. As he conducted his examination, something felt wrong.

On the surface, the symptoms resembled carbon monoxide poisoning. Yet, there were also signs consistent with exposure to a neurotoxic anesthetic agent.
