Joseph had his own share of problems, and he wasn’t capable of emerging unscathed from these turbulent waters, so he could only keep a low profile and tread carefully.

While he was on duty, he reminded his staff not to discuss Walt’s case so they wouldn’t get themselves into trouble.

Patients continued to die from infections, kidney failures, and other complications. Joseph couldn’t bring anyone to life, so all he could do was offer his condolences to the grieving families.

But something miraculous happened-Avery’s infection had begun to improve. She had even been taken off the ventilator and extubated, and she could breathe on her own. At this rate, it wouldn’t be long before she would be speaking again.

However, the burns covering her body were still an issue. Joseph had the medical staff keep an eye on her condition.

When Joseph got home, he realized Bernard and Helen were there too. He greeted them, but they didn’t seem happy to see him, so he didn’t say much to them. He had his children entertain themselves or study before going into his study.

Not long after, Natalie came downstairs and went straight into his study. She walked over to him, asking softly,” How’s your investigation going? Any progress?”

“No. I’ve got a lot to take care of at the hospital, so I haven’t had time to look into it. Most importantly, Cora’s getting in the way and covering things up.”

“So you really are useless.” Natalie sneered.

“I suppose that’s true. Actually, I don’t have to keep looking into this anymore. After all, the paternity test results already prove everything.

“Cora’s just being difficult. We don’t have any key leads for now. Let’s not continue this discussion. You can leave now.”

“Joseph, you’ve changed-you’ve gotten soft. Mom must’ve scared the hell out of you. You’re such a coward. You’re going to ruin your own life.”

Natalie wasn’t pleased with how things had turned out. She wanted to know who exactly her biological father was. She wanted his love and for him to make up for all the lost time by giving her both emotional and financial

support.
