A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 171

Chapter 171

Joseph thought he would feel conflicted since Frank and Cora were so close. It wasn’t impossible that they were having an affair. Even if they weren’t, his death would weaken her position.

But once Joseph arrived at the hospital and entered the emergency room, his concerns faded away. All he cared about was his duty as a doctor.

After emergency resuscitation, Joseph was able to stabilize Frank’s condition, temporarily bringing him out of danger.

By noon, Frank briefly regained consciousness, and all the medical staff sighed in relief. Joseph was able to provide Cora with an update on the situation.

In the afternoon, officials from the State Health Department arrived to install Yvette Quinn in her new position. Since Joseph was busy treating patients, he skipped the reception line, the introductory meeting, and the welcome banquet at night.

But as soon as he stepped out of the emergency room and returned to his office, he found Yvette in his seat. She was a stunning woman who exuded a commanding presence.

Yvette was clearly waiting for him.

“Dr. Quinn, do you have any instructions for me?”

“Dr. Hart, I’ve admired you for a long time. Now that we’ve met in person, you’re far more impressive than I imagined. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She rose to her feet and shook hands with Joseph.

“More like I’m infamous, huh? I’ve been busy all day, and I’m really exhausted now. I won’t report anything to you for now. I need to go home and rest. I have plenty to do tomorrow.” Joseph yawned, forcing himself to stay awake. He reached for his briefcase and left his office.

At the parking lot, Yvette saw no sign of Joseph’s car, so she walked to a corner and got into her car. Someone else was in her car too-Grace. After all, they were on the same side.

“How did things go with Joseph?” Grace asked.

“He’s wary of me. He told me he was exhausted as an excuse, so we didn’t get a chance to talk things out.” Yvette was a little disappointed and upset that Joseph hadn’t given her the respect she expected, yet she was even more intrigued by him.
