Chapter 253
Cora was speechless. She couldn’t drag Joseph home by force. They were in the hospital, and members of the Croma faction were waiting outside. If a confrontation broke out, the situation could become troublesome.
In the end, Cora had no choice but to return home alone. The disappointment on Selena’s face was obvious. All Cora could do was instruct Ella to keep a closer eye on Selena and make sure the latter didn’t do anything impulsive.
Although Bernard had never liked Joseph, the house felt strange without Joseph. It was especially so for Selena. There was no telling when she would throw another fit.
Bernard followed Cora into the study and asked, “What happened? Even you couldn’t bring him back? Has he gotten that full of himself?”
Cora replied, “He’s focused on Kyle now. He’s digging into Kyle’s connection with me. He already knows that Kyle was tied to the PR department. Now, he’s trying to bring the entire department down.
“Maroon Mansion has just finished renovations. It was supposed to open soon, but with Kyle’s arrest, that’s not happening anymore.”
“How could Joseph do that? He’s openly turning against us. He’s biting the hand that fed him. He’s so ungrateful! “Bernard was angry.
Cora stated, “Dad, don’t blame him. He just misunderstood me. Don’t talk about him in that manner. Kyle was arrested too quickly, and we haven’t been able to get him released. The Croma faction is definitely behind this.
“As for the fire at New World Group, we still don’t know who started it. Someone is operating in the shadows here in Jenton, pulling strings behind everyone’s backs. We still have no idea who it is.”
Even now, Cora protected Joseph. She knew what he was capable of. He didn’t have the power to take down Kyle.
“If Kyle can’t be released, how much are we going to lose?” Bernard asked.
“The PR department is finished. We’ll also have to cancel every project connected to Kyle. It’ll hurt, but the losses are still within a manageable range,” answered Cora.
“That’s good,” responded Bernard, feeling relieved that the losses weren’t huge.
He added, “Why would Joseph choose a time like this to pull such a stunt? What a disappointment.”
“Stop talking about him,” said Cora, gesturing for Bernard to leave. After relaxing for a while, she made a call once her parents and children had gone to bed.
She asked, “Kyle has been arrested. What do we do now?”
The person on the other end replied, “It’s your husband’s doing. You can’t keep him around anymore. Divorce him and make him leave Jenton.”
Cora snapped, “Is that your brilliant solution? How many times do I have to tell you? I love my husband. I’m not divorcing him. If you’re going to start treating him like some imaginary enemy, you’ve really lost your judgment.”
Ignoring her criticism, the person said, “Have Joseph issue a medical certificate declaring Kyle mentally ill tomorrow. Once that’s done, Kyle won’t have to take criminal responsibility.
“I’ll deal with public opinion and negotiate with the Croma faction. As long as they stop stirring things up online, this story will fade away.”

Cora responded, “Joseph would never do that. He’s a doctor. He won’t falsify a medical report. Don’t test him. You don’t understand him. He’s incredibly stubborn. Besides, he’s already starting to suspect you exist. I have a feeling that he’s getting very close to figuring out who you are.”
The person stated, “It seems that someone is helping him. Is it the woman from Croma? Let’s eliminate her.”
Cora questioned, “Will the Croma faction let that slide? Have you taken so much medication that it has fried your – brain? The person helping Joseph isn’t someone we know. We have to find that person.”
“Do you really think that someone exists? Aren’t you just scaring yourself? I’m telling you, when it comes to Joseph, you need to cut ties while you still can,” said the person on the other end of the line.
