Chapter 341
Cora listened as Jonas admitted he still had no idea who was responsible. After promising that the Lowells would mobilize their own resources to investigate, she ended the call.
She frowned when she saw that Joseph was still reading calmly. “Are you going to keep pretending? The Towne family is in complete chaos. Aren’t you even curious? Don’t you want to go watch the show?”
Joseph simply took another sip of tea. “I’m just an ordinary man. People like me don’t get a say when it comes to the storm brewing there. Besides, what does any of it have to do with me?”
Cora retorted, “Don’t sell yourself short. As long as you say the word, the Croma faction would gladly take you under their wing. They’d do many things for you.
“Countless people have their eyes on your medical skills. If they help you in exchange for the chance of you saving their lives one day, they’d be getting the better end of that deal.”
She couldn’t deny that Joseph currently lacked political connections. But she also had to admit that his medical ability had already become a valuable bargaining chip.
Joseph nodded. “That’s true. Yvette, Mavis, and others have invited me to Croma. They would arrange a position for me and make sure I never have to worry about money. In return, I just need to keep them in the best of health.”
Cora immediately asked, “So, did you accept their offer?”
Joseph ignored the question, changing the subject instead. “You said the Towne family is about to be in complete chaos. It sounds like they’re about to follow the Ashmore family’s fate. The Towne family’s destruction will both be their own doing and also have nothing to do with them.”
Córa stayed silent, waiting for Joseph to continue. In all their time together, this might be the first time she heard Joseph openly analyzing the balance of power in Jenton.
In the past, whenever she and her parents discussed these matters at home, Joseph would simply excuse himself. He never joined in the conversation.
Joseph said, “The Towne family is subordinate to the Zahn family. Do you agree with that?”
Cora nodded. “Before this, I never even knew a family like the Zahns existed. I thought the Lowells and the Townes stood at the very top. I never realized how ignorant we were.”
Joseph continued, “If Natalie and the others aren’t Towne family children, then they probably belong to the Zahn family.”
Cora shook her head. “No. They’re your children!”
Joseph’s anger flared once again. “Cora, if you still refuse to admit that, then you can leave.”
Cora put her hands up. “Honey, fine. Let’s not argue. When the entire truth finally comes to light, you’ll change your mind. You’ll love us again.”
Joseph sneered. “The truth? No, I’m not going to wait for you to confess. It’s been almost 20 years. You’ve probably lied to yourself for so long that you’ve started believing your own lies.
“I’ll uncover the truth myself. The Zahn family has been exposed. The more they come out in the open, the less mysterious they become. And eventually, I’ll drag that bastard out of hiding.”
Cora sighed. “Honey, please don’t get angry. And don’t do anything reckless.

“Oh, forget it. Why did you say that the destruction of the Towne family will have nothing to do with them?”
Joseph paused for a moment before continuing, “Because the outsiders are after the Zahn family. More precisely, they’re after Owen’s secret to longevity. He’s lived for 120 years and still shows no signs of reaching the end of his life. There’s definitely a secret behind that.
