A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 345

Chapter 345

“Joseph looks exhausted. Go back to your room so he can get some rest.” Rosalie gently sent Brooke upstairs before making Joseph a cup of tea.

She said, “Joseph, I heard about what happened at the hospital. Are you going to leave Jenton? Will you leave Brooke and me behind?”

Joseph shook his head. “I’m not leaving Jenton. I might have left the hospital, but I’ve opened my own clinic. From now on, I’ll work for myself.”

Rosalie was surprised. “A clinic? Let me introduce some patients to you. There are plenty of old people living in this neighborhood who are caring for their grandchildren. Most of them have some health issues.”

Joseph replied, “You don’t need to do that. My clinic doesn’t cater to patients like that. It looks like a clinic to the public, but we only serve clients referred to us. If the people you’re talking about came to my clinic, they’d simply be redirected to a nearby hospital.”

Joseph had accepted Yelena’s advice and decided to work only with influential people. Likewise, he was doing his best to make sure that influential people would choose him.

As long as Cora refused to divorce him, and as long as the man who’d fathered the children came from a powerful family like the Zahn family, he would never be able to stand against them alone. He needed allies and needed to become stronger himself.

Since he decided to step onto this path, an ordinary life was no longer possible. He understood that there would be a price to pay.

Rosalie seemed to understand what Joseph was trying to do and asked nothing more.

The night passed peacefully.

Early the next morning, Joseph received a call from Richard. Richard told him that Cindy woke up at five, saying she was hungry.

Joseph said, “Let her eat whatever she wants to. There are no dietary restrictions. Just follow everything else I told you yesterday.”

After hanging up, Joseph washed up and left Kingsley Estate.

Not long after arriving at the clinic, Bernard and Helen showed up.

Looking around the modest clinic, Bernard said, “All you have to do is apologize, and you can get your old position back at Jenton University Hospital. What you’re doing now is taking a step backward.”

Joseph wasn’t pleased, but he wasn’t angry either. “Shouldn’t you be busy with the Lowell family’s problems? Has your family already recovered enough that you have the time to come here to lecture me?”

Bernard scowled. “You’ve lost your hospital job. Do you know who you’re embarrassing by running a tiny clinic like this? You’re embarrassing the Lowell family and me.”

“Embarrassing you?” Joseph let out a disdainful laugh.

He sneered. “My reputation was ruined a long time ago. I don’t have anything else to lose. IF you’re worried about your reputation, then the door is right there.”

Helen said, “Bernard, go wait in the car. I want to talk to Joseph alone.”
