“Yasmin, what brings you here? Weren’t you supposed to go with the old hag to pay your respects?”

Zachary felt a little uneasy. The last thing he wanted was to be caught red-handed with his mistress.

“Grace’s body has already been cremated. We came back before collecting her ashes. Tomorrow, we’ll/go-” Yasmin cut herself off, hit by the pungent scent in the room. She sneezed twice. “Why did you spray so much air freshener?”

Zachary quickly pulled her out of the room.

As he did, Yasmin caught sight of a hickey on his neck and froze. Had he been cheating on her?

Men were all the same! They were trash!

She didn’t even bother listening to whatever excuse Zachary stammered out to cover up the lingering perfume. You stink of air freshener. Don’t come near me.”

Feeling another sneeze coming on, she waved him away to keep his distance. Her mind raced, wondering which vixen had managed to seduce her husband.

In truth, it wasn’t just the hickey; other clues suddenly clicked into place.

Ever since they returned from Jenton, they hadn’t been intimate. He hadn’t been able to perform at all, as if something inside him had broken beyond repair. At first, she thought it was a medical issue. Now she realized he was simply spending his energy on another woman.

“So this is who you really are, huh? I’m done putting up with you!” Yasmin quickly came to terms with it.

“I didn’t show up to the service. Did the old hag say anything about me?”

“Not at all. You weren’t the only one who skipped it. Grace’s face was so badly disfigured she didn’t even look like herself anymore. Not seeing her was the best way to preserve her dignity.”

Yasmin immediately pivoted. “Did you have anything to do with Grace’s death?”

“No! You can’t just throw around accusations like that!” Zachary denied it instantly. If he were implicated in a murder, he would be ruined. “Look, I admit I once had designs on her, but I never had the nerve to actually act on it. Besides, do you really think I can pull off something like that right under the old hag’s nose?”

Zachary shot back. “Did you come here just to ask me that? Do you have any proof that someone murdered her?”

“How could there possibly be any evidence? If there were, I would’ve taken care of it by now. I just felt uneasy about it and thought I’d ask you. Since it wasn’t you, I don’t have to worry about it.”

Yasmin turned and walked straight out. But the moment she got into her car, her expression went entirely cold.

She had initially come to talk to Zachary because she had spotted a forensic report on Grace’s death in Mavis’ room. Before she could read the actual findings, Mavis had snatched it away. All Yasmin had managed to see was that the document contained far more details and attachments than the official copy released to the rest of the family.

Those missing pages likely held the real truth behind Grace’s death.

It was a shame she hadn’t gotten a better look. Even if she went back now, she would never lay eyes on it; Mavis would have already hidden or destroyed it.
