Chapter 453
The next day, the sun shone brightly. Joseph stopped by his clinic to prepare the equipment for the DNA tests. Now that he had narrowed the suspects down to eight, he had already sent his people to collect biological samples. If everything went as planned, the stuff would arrive later that day.
Not long afterward, Katie came over and asked, “Marla is here again. What do you want to do?”
Joseph hesitated for a moment before replying, “Let her in.”
What Joseph hadn’t expected was for Marla to roll into the clinic in a wheelchair. Both of her legs were wrapped in casts. However, what was more eye-catching was the black mourning armband tied around her upper arm.
Marla spat at Joseph, but the spit didn’t reach him. She shouted, “You’re no good!”
“Hey, watch yourself!” Katie yelled, wanting to step forward.
Joseph stopped Katie and told her to leave. Then, he turned to Marla and asked, “Did your husband die?”
Marla snapped, “That’s right. He died because you refused to save him. You made me a widow. Are you happy now? Does that make you feel good?”
Joseph smiled as he thought, “You show me no respect, so don’t expect any from me. Nobody owes anybody anything in this world.”
Marla was furious. “Don’t get cocky. You aren’t a good person either. You won’t have a good ending.”
“I won’t have a good ending? How much worse could my life get? Will my wife die? My parents are already dead. If my wife dies, so be it then. If one dead Cora isn’t enough, after she’s gone, you and I can remarry. Then, you can die afterward,” stated Joseph.
“Why are you always picking on me?” Marla stammered. She felt defeated, tears welling up in her eyes.
“I’m picking on you? As the wrongdoer, you’re accusing the victim first? Didn’t you approach Natalie because you wanted to gamble? You wanted to trick her into acknowledging the Zahn family so that she could get their wealth. Then, you would get a share of it.
“Oh, right. That was only one reason. The other was to get close enough to draw her blood. You and Yara are exactly alike. The fact that you’re still alive makes me think that heaven must have gone blind.
