A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 536

Chapter 536

The moment Joseph stepped out, Gemma called him over and informed him, “With Reuben in his current condition, the medical sect is shorthanded. As long as Jenna passes her final test, she’ll be able to return.”

Joseph raised an eyebrow. “The final test?”

Gemma replied, “It’s an interview. If her performance is deemed satisfactory, she’ll have her status restored. If things move quickly, she’ll be able to come over today. If not, it’ll have to wait until next week.”

Joseph asked, “If Jenna comes back, what will happen to you?”

Gemma said, “You’re worried about that? Jenna is more capable than I am, so she’ll take the lead. But I’ll still be staying here. I’ll still be your superior, and you’ll still follow my orders, understand?”

He nodded. “I understand. I’ll always be your soldier. Wherever you tell me to fight, I’ll fight. I will never disobey your orders.”

“You sure are a smooth talker.” Gemma seemed touched by his words and, on impulse, decided to give Joseph a little reward. She casually asked him to massage her shoulders and told him to move his hands a little farther forward, and then even more.

When she noticed Joseph stopping just before touching the swell of her chest, she said, “Why aren’t you listening? You were just making all these promises. Were you just humoring me?”

Joseph shook his head. “Of course not. I genuinely want to listen to your words, but is this really alright?”

She scoffed. “I’m allowing it.”

“Then thank you so much, Gemma. You’re a saint. I’ll never forget your kindness.” Feigning overwhelming joy, Joseph’s hands trembled slightly as he accepted his reward. When Gemma leaned back slightly, he moved in as if

to kiss her.

At that moment, however, she pushed him away. “We’re not at that stage yet. This much is all you’re getting, and this is the only time you’re getting it. Now get back to work.”

Once Joseph had left, she hurriedly drank some water to suppress the heat and impulses rising within her.

She said to herself, “Am I reluctant to let him go because Jenna is coming back and Henry will be returning to her side? What’s wrong with me? Henry is obviously so ugly.”

Outside, Joseph stared at his own hands, feeling a slight stir in his emotions. He might not be interested in Gemma herself, but given this identity and age, he still had to behave like an ordinary man tempted by beautiful

women.

Of course, he couldn’t completely deny his own physical desires either. It had been quite some time since he’d last shared an intimate moment with Cora.

Stepping outside and looking at the busy doctors and nurses along with the anxious families of patients, Joseph felt that what had just happened was utterly absurd. It had definitely been thrilling, but also extremely risky. This identity of his lacked the means to suppress the consequences of such risks.

Just as he was lost in thought, he suddenly spotted a familiar figure emerging from the elevator. Even wearing sunglasses, a T-shirt, fitted jeans, and a pair of expensive leather shoes, she looked youthful and radiant.

Joseph recognized her instantly. It was Natalie.

Natalie wanted to visit Skylar, but without permission from Gemma and the others, there was no way she would be allowed in.

She began insisting that, as Skylar’s daughter, Joseph and the other medical staff had to let her through.

Then Joseph noticed an even more familiar figure approaching from the elevators.

It was Cora.

He immediately told Natalie, “Look who’s here. You’ll be able to get in if you follow her.”

“Don’t tell her who I am.” Natalie panicked and quickly turned around, not daring to look at Cora
