Afterward, he went to Yara’s room and asked Beth to leave. As if she’d sensed his arrival, Yara slowly awoke from her hazy sleep and stared intently at him. There was joy in her eyes, but restrained by her pride, she merely looked

at him in silence.

She didn’t want to be the first to speak. It was almost as though whoever spoke first would be the one to lose the upper hand.

Joseph approached her to examine her and saw that she wasn’t in good condition. If Yara hadn’t stubbornly refused amputation, both of her legs would likely have been removed by now.

When he lifted the bedsheet, he could see that everything below her knees had turned a purplish-black. Veins bulged across her legs, and blood clots were clearly obstructing her vessels.

Yara kept her eyes on Joseph throughout the examination. At one point, the pain became unbearable, and she asked him to stop.

However, Joseph ignored her. He thought about how Yara had arranged for someone to drug him with substances intended to sterilize him. She had tried to ensure he could never have children, all so that Cora could safely become pregnant with Skylar’s children. It filled him with an urge to kill her.

But he knew that simply killing Yara would be far too merciful,

She hurriedly made her feelings clear. “I love you. I’m willing to give you everything I have. You can have me, my money, everything. Just don’t leave me. Please, don’t abandon me.”

Under normal circumstances, she would never have fallen in love with someone like Joseph. But she was sick now, and at the most vulnerable point in her life. Her emotions had made her willing to accept someone like him.

Joseph said, “If I can become wealthy without having to work for it, I’d be a fool to refuse. But your brother won’t let me touch your money. He could kill me at any moment.”

She shook her head. “He won’t do that. I’m his sister. He’ll respect our family ties.”

Joseph countered, “How about this? Skylar’s condition is worse than yours, and he has made many enemies. He could be taken out at any moment, so you should take control of his assets on his behalf. Once he has no money, he’ll be practically harmless. Then, I won’t have to worry about him coming after me.
