A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 66

Chapter 66

“No dinner plans tonight?” Joseph took the towel from Cora’s hands and casually asked the question. In truth, he deeply resented the woman standing before him, but those many years of love couldn’t simply be erased overnight.

After days apart, Cora was still breathtakingly beautiful. She was, without a doubt, the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. Even after living together for nearly two decades, he had never once grown tired of her. At least, not before he discovered the ugly side of her.

He couldn’t help but think that everything would still be perfect if only Cora hadn’t cheated. But she did cheat, and now everything was ruined.

This woman filled him with regret, anger, and helplessness all at once.

Cora replied, “There are some dinner parties going on, but I didn’t feel like going. Honestly speaking, with my current status, most people aren’t even qualified to dine with me.”

Joseph raised an eyebrow. “Really? Then what about me? I’m just an ordinary nobody. Am I qualified to dine with you?”

Cora smiled. “Of course you are. You’re my husband. We’re family, so we’re equals. Alright, now that you’re home, stop sulking. Everyone in this house is family, so there’s no need to keep giving each other the cold shoulder. Wouldn’t it be better if we all got along peacefully?

“You’ve probably been eating and sleeping badly these past few days, so I asked Mary to make some good food for you. You should eat up.”

Joseph nodded. “Yes, a prosperous life starts from a harmonious family.”

Then, after a pause, Joseph added, “Right, your father came to the hospital looking for me. Did you know about that?”

Cora frowned. “No, what did he say to you?”

Joseph shrugged. “Just the same old stuff. And he made some demands that were beyond my ability to handle. I ignored him, and he was furious. He probably wishes we’d divorce immediately. But judging from your reaction, it seems you didn’t know about it. Maybe he just wanted to handle it himself.”
