He made up his mind on the spot. Guilt flickered in his eyes as he looked at Arthur again.

The meeting was about the situation in the finance department and the replacement of its director, but Joseph wasn’t particularly interested in all that. Once he was back in his department office, he was surprised to get a call from Cora.

Joseph spoke first. “Ms. Lowell, I was just about to reach out to you. I heard the recording of your husband’s conversation. He appears to have something against you. Is there still any point in me doing what you want?”

But Cora didn’t seem surprised by what he said. After all, he was Yara’s fiance.

Cora said, “It’s just a misunderstanding. I’ll explain everything to Joe myself. Just do what you’re supposed to do.”

“Alright then. Everything on my end is ready. I also hope you and Dr. Hart can resolve your differences and get back together. Is there anything else you need?”

“I have two patients in critical condition. Do you know any doctors you can trust?”

“Oh? Aren’t your patients here at my hospital?”
