Chapter 749
“That was quick. The problem is, does Cora belong to you?” Joseph asked.
Joseph had nothing but contempt for Skylar. After leaving the ward, Joseph started looking into Oliver, the owner of Everyday Logistics.
Whether it was a coincidence or simply because Jenton wasn’t big, after Joseph recruited people, he placed them in all kinds of industries. There were low-skill but physically demanding jobs like delivery drivers and logistics staff.
These jobs were perfect because they could step into those positions whenever needed. Five of his men were already working at Everyday Logistics.
Oliver was in his early 40s. He was an ordinary-looking man, but he was surprisingly tough. Joseph had already made up his mind. If Oliver could work for him, he would keep him around. If not, he would have to suffer the
consequences.
It wasn’t personal. Joseph just couldn’t allow anyone to interfere with his plans. That night, he sent his men to deal with Oliver and the other executives at Everyday Logistics. After a little persuasion, Oliver and the others
submitted to him.
Over the next two days, Joseph also gradually transferred the money from the 100-million-dollar account Skylar had given him. He continued using it to recruit more people and expand his network.
Just as Joseph had expected, after Eugene returned, Eugene reopened the investigation into Harry’s case.
Since Joseph hadn’t taken any of the resources Harry had left behind and had done an excellent job handling the work Harry had left behind, all suspicion against Joseph disappeared. Joseph was even summoned to Emerald Mountain to receive a reward.
Joseph put on a modest act. When Eugene told Joseph he wanted to promote him further, on the condition that he changed his last name, he readily agreed. From that day on, Joseph had a new name, Henry Zahn.
As Joseph’s position within the medical sect continued to rise, his residence at Emerald Mountain was moved farther inside, bringing him closer to where Owen lived.
Owen still hadn’t met with Joseph personally, but when Joseph left, he was allowed to ride in Owen’s private car. That alone became something Joseph loved to brag about in front of Skylar and Yara.
After all, neither Skylar nor Yara had ever ridden in Owen’s car. After telling Yara about it, Joseph asked, “Are you still thinking about breaking off our engagement?
“I’m just worried that if Mr. Zahn Senior finds out you’ve been cheating on me with Joseph, he’ll instantly call off our engagement and arrange another marriage for me. What do you think? If that happens, should I accept it or not?”
Yara remembered what Joseph had said about Henry. Joseph would make Henry lose some of his abilities. No matter how successful Henry became, Yara still believed that he couldn’t compare to Joseph.
However, if Joseph broke off their engagement and accepted a marriage arranged by Owen, all of Yara’s plans would fall apart. Worse, if Joseph exposed her betrayal, she could be punished for it. She seemed to have fallen into a dangerous situation.

Joseph reassured Yara, saying, “Still, I’ll keep our history in mind. Even if Mr. Zahn Senior offered me his daughter, I would turn her down. You’re my fiancee, and I should remain faithful to you. Once I catch Joseph, I’ll deal with him!”
Were men really this ruthless when it came to their rivals? Yara glared at Joseph and warned, “Don’t get ahead of yourself. Joseph is far more capable than you. If you try to hurt him, he’ll take you down first!”
Joseph grinned. “If he weren’t capable, how could he have treated you? Do you know why I haven’t shown up these past few days? Do you know why I’ve loosened my watch over you? I was giving him an opportunity to come here and perform surgery on you.
“All the caretakers who were here that night have already been replaced. If he wants to get back in now, it won’t be as easy.”
Yara was stunned. “You knew he came to treat me?”
She felt as though Joseph had been manipulating her the entire time. He could take her people away at any moment. On top of that, the money belonging to her and Skylar had also fallen into his hands. She wouldn’t be able to access any of it.
