Joseph spent several days treating Skylar at the Traditional Medicine Center. Once he was doing better, Joseph smuggled him out of the hospital.

It was only when Skylar laid eyes on the bank vault that he realized what Joseph was after. “Henry, everything in there was left to me by my birth mother. Can’t you at least leave me something to remember her by?”

“Save it. Just do as I say!”

Joseph said nothing else as he made Skylar press his fingerprint, scan his iris, and enter the passcode. Once all that was done, they retrieved the contents. It was a combination-locked safe.

The safe barely outweighed its own mass when carried, so whatever was inside couldn’t be gold, silver, or jewels. If it wasn’t anything valuable, then it was likely personal belongings left behind by Skylar’s

mother.

Still, since Joseph’s curiosity was now thoroughly piqued, he wouldn’t be satisfied until he knew exactly what was inside.

He didn’t open it on the spot. Instead, he took Skylar back to the villa and made him give up the combination.

Once the safe was opened, he first saw a few simple articles of clothing and a group photo. It was a picture of Rachel and Edmund’s family, and it showed ten people.

“Are all these people your mother’s biological children?”

Joseph asked Skylar, pointing at the people in the photograph.

“That’s right. Yara and I were the only ones she carried for ten months herself. The other eight were born through surrogacy.”

“The Zahn family sure knows how to multiply. At this rate, you guys are going to drain our resources dry!

Joseph was dumbfounded. He continued looking through the safe and found bankbooks, passports, and other documents inside.

Some were under the name Rachel Yale, while others belonged to Isla Yale. There was also a locked diary. Joseph had barely opened it when an extremely old key fell out.

Joseph asked Skylar about it, but the latter had no idea. Joseph examined the key carefully and remembered that in the inner hall of the Owen’s courtyard, there was an old lock that fit this kind of key.

He figured it was probably for Rachel’s old residence on Emerald Mountain.

He took Skylar back to the bank to check the balances in Rachel’s and Isla’s accounts. Neither account had been closed, and there was still quite a bit of money in them.

Naturally, that money ended up in Joseph’s hands too, which made Skylar grit his teeth in rage.

Joseph mused, “The people are dead, but the accounts are still active. Someone must still be using them.

An idea suddenly occurred to Joseph. He made Skylar reveal whether there were other accounts and discovered three active checking accounts, each with quite a bit of money.

If Skylar was hiding his mother’s accounts, might he also be hiding his siblings’ accounts?

Over the next two or three days, Joseph dragged Skylar to practically every bank and financial institution they could reach and cleaned out anything belonging to Skylar’s mother or siblings.

Through the entire ordeal, Skylar’s complexion never once returned to normal. He simply had a dark look on his face the whole time.
