Chapter 78
Inside the room, Joseph examined every valuable item one by one, trying to track where each had come from. Cora had brought home countless rare things. If any of them were put on the market, they would fetch great prices.
However, Joseph didn’t care about their monetary value. What he cared about was who had given them to Cora.
Many of the items hadn’t appeared out of nowhere, especially the ones Cora had brought back shortly before her birthdays. Those were the most suspicious.
After they had children, Cora almost always spent her birthdays at home with the family. It seemed perfectly reasonable, but a cheating woman who didn’t want to arouse suspicion would naturally spend important anniversaries and birthdays with her husband and children.
Such a woman would be reckless before the celebrations. That was when she would meet up with her lovers. This meant that these gifts were likely birthday presents from the men she had been involved with behind Joseph’s back.
The gift collection included traditional paintings, antiques, rare trinkets, and even the small turtle at Bernard’s house, along with many other items of uncertain value. None of them had receipts or invoices. Most of them had been gifts.
For more than ten years, Cora had cheated on Joseph many times behind his back. It was beyond humiliating.
As Joseph stared at the things, hatred grew in him. He wanted to kill Cora and her lovers. The hatred of having one’s wife stolen was irreconcilable. The humiliation of being cheated on felt like a blood feud.
While facing all of this, he searched online for information about the items. At the same time, he took pictures of them and posted them on secondhand marketplaces.
He wasn’t an expert in antiques or collectibles, but if someone truly wanted these objects, that person would definitely be an expert. Once people started contacting him, he could learn more from them.
Joseph had already blocked Walt’s personal number and his office line. If Walt called from another phone, Joseph would end the
call the moment he realized who it was.
Nonetheless, when Joseph received a call from Marvin, he hesitated for a moment before answering.
