Chapter 222 Happy
“I guarantee it–within half a day, this screenshot will land right under Mrs. Rowe’s nose.”
Hearing Lily say that, the smile at the corner of Amelia’s lips deepened.

True–Grace might’ve been momentarily placated by Hannah’s pity play and softened toward her, but that didn’t mean she’d accept Hannah remarrying Ethan.
Especially not while Ethan hadn’t even announced the divorce, yet was already tangled up with a widow. who had a child, so publicly that everyone knew.
Not long after she finished talking with Lily, a servant knocked and came in.
“Ms. Harlow, after breakfast, Mr. Everett said he’ll take you to the hospital to have your cast removed. Are you ready?”
“Mm!” Amelia nodded, asking the servant to wheel her into the bathroom to wash
up first.
By the time she reached the dining room, Mason was already seated there.
He was wearing a pale blue turtleneck, eating his bacon unhurriedly.
His gaze flicked instinctively to Amelia in her wheelchair.
As if burned, she immediately turned her face away.
Compared to the chaos in Amelia’s heart, Mason seemed as though nothing had happened at all—calm and composed to the core.
As if the man who’d held her to sleep last night, shared her bed that morning, and teased her with suggestive words wasn’t him at all.
The servant set Amelia’s place and brought her warm milk and a sandwich.
Amelia lowered her head, murmured “thank you,” picked up the sandwich–then didn’t take a bite.
She was spacing out.
Her mind jumped between Hannah’s showy post and Ethan’s hypocritical face–until, finally, every image settled on Mason.
The man across the table seemed to notice her distraction; his low voice broke the dining room’s quiet.
“Not hungry?”
His tone was flat, emotionless–like a casual inquiry.
Amelia snapped back like a startled deer, lifting her head to meet his unfathomable eyes.
She shook her head in a panic, then realized it was wrong and quickly nodded. “Hun–hungry.”
She lowered her head and mechanically took a bite of the sandwich.

A whole breakfast.

Finished
Amelia kept her head down the entire time, not daring to look at him again.
Finally, she heard the soft clink of cutlery being set down.
Mason wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin, still elegant and unhurried.
He’d finished first.
He stood from his seat.
“I’ll go get the car,” He looked down at her, informing–not asking. “I’ll take you to the hospital to remove the cast.”
Amelia refused without thinking. “No need–that’s too much trouble. I can go myself, or … I can ask Lily to come with me.”
She truly didn’t want any more entanglements with him.
The sense of debt–and the increasingly ambiguous tension between them–made her feel suffocated and panicked.
Mason didn’t give her a choice.
He leaned forward slightly, both hands braced on the table’s edge.
“People who are sick don’t get to refuse.”
His gaze stole her breath; every word of refusal lodged in her throat.
All she could do was watch him straighten, drop that line, and stride toward the parking lot outside the villa.
Only when his tall figure vanished at the door did Amelia exhale–realizing her back was damp with sweat.
“Heh…”
A gentle chuckle came from nearby.
Amelia turned to see Miles standing to the side, smiling toward the direction Mason had gone–his eyes full of quiet satisfaction.
“It’s been a long time since Mr. Everett has been this… happy,” Miles said with feeling.
Amelia looked at him, puzzled. “Happy? He didn’t even smile. How do you know he’s happy?”
