“No. I just got back,” Amelia said. She relaxed, walked over, and sat on the couch by the window. “Why are you calling, Sadie? Is something wrong?”

There was a short pause on Sadie’s side, as if she were choosing her words. Then she asked gently, “It’s nothing serious. I just wanted to check on you. Have you been having money problems lately? If you need help, don’t be shy with me.”

The sudden concern caught Amelia completely off guard.

She found it strange. Even though she was staying at Mason’s place now, that had nothing to do with being short on cash.

“No, Sadie,” she said honestly, the confusion in her voice clear. “I’m doing fine. Everything’s normal. Why do you ask?”

“That’s what’s odd…” Sadie’s tone turned slightly amused. “Today, someone in the industry named Edison set up a meeting. He introduced me to a new designer, Hannah Gray.”

The moment she heard the name, Amelia’s nerves tightened.

Sadie continued at her usual steady pace. “She really went all out for this design competition. She gave each of us judges a handbag. Funny thing is, the one she gave me happens to be the pink Kelly bag I helped order for you last year. Ethan asked me to do it as an anniversary gift.”

Sadie paused, her words taking on a deeper meaning.

“I thought a bag with that kind of meaning wouldn’t be something you’d just let go of. So I wondered are you short on cash and passed it on to someone else?”

Amelia understood right away.

She finally saw why Sadie had called.

After the call ended, Amelia sat quietly on the couch, unmoving for a long time.

Her face looked far from good.

In six years of marriage, Ethan had given her more luxury gifts than she could count.

But among all of them, very few were things he had picked out himself, with real care behind them.

Most were bought by his assistant, following the brand lists for each new season. They were chosen by routine, handed over like items on a checklist.

To her, those gifts were not signs of love. They were part of the role. The standard gear of “Mrs. Rowe.” Props that Ethan used to show off his wealth and generosity.

So she rarely touched them, let alone liked them.

They just sat quietly in the closet.

She never expected that her longtime indifference would give Hannah a chance to take advantage.

Hannah had taken her personal things while she was gone, without asking, and then used them to win favors from others.

Some of it didn’t matter to Amelia. But that did not mean anyone else had the right to take

them.

Having someone move into her home, take her things, and use them as gifts was beyond disgusting.

Whether she used those things or liked them did not matter. Their ownership was clear. They belonged to Amelia.
